after having it inspected by Lexus..16 to 20K depending on results of inspections and your markets availability ...BTW there are few recent threads on what to look for when going through the cars.

Hard to say with limited information. It's like asking a guy, "do you like a 25 year old blond that was a cheerleader ten years ago"? Lots can happen in that time, and on paper she sounds great! LOL

$20-$24k, possibly more or less depending on if it's had up-to-date maint completed, timing belt, 30/60k service, no paint or wrecks, etc. Hard to say without more information. What's the carfax say? You can easily whack $2-$3k off the price if it needs the timing belt/water pump done (recommended date for a 2002 and 2003 now, regardless of mileage), 30/60/90 service (all fluids, filters, etc, regardless of mileage), tires, brakes, battery. You can take more off for paint, interior condition if it's bad, etc. Ultimately the larger range could be as low as $18k to as high as $24k-although it would have to be absolutely showroom perfect with absolutely no issues for that!

If it's had NOTHING done since 2005 and had paint issues and needs tires, brakes, battery and perhaps interior or exterior isn't as clean as the mileage indicates--perhaps there is some funny business with the mileage (rollback or odo tampering) OR it is truly worth less...start with $20k.

Some other considerations-updated navigation disc? Extra keys? Books? Lexus floor mats? A car with one key, no books and an old disc or no disc is worth hundreds less than a car with four keys, all books, clean/newer floor mats and updated nav disc IMO.

go to www.lexus.com to register and find out all the service records

Also, do a search on "what would you pay" or "price" under SC430 and you'll find a ton of great information.

If it's been maintained, exc in and out, no wrecks, good tires/brakes/battery you could even justify paying up to $24k for it.

To give you my frame of reference on a 2002 with low mileage (25k), I sold my red/ecru back in August 2008 last summer for $24,500 and it had upgrades to it galore and was in PERFECT condition, no wrecks, two owner, under warranty and all service up to date.

Funny thing is, though...Autotrader Nationally has a small sample of 2002 SC430's with super low mileage like this one (10 under 30k miles specifically) and here are the ranges:

Range of prices within this search:

Highest Price: $33,995, Average: $27,431 and low price: $23,999 Miles from 13k-28k

***Remember these are ASKING prices of course and mostly dealers. You can expect a $2-$3k (or roughly 10%) negotiating cushion right off the top maybe more so that super pristine, perfect car may be worth whatever someone is willing to pay****

Give us some more details please...

Hi jkt,

I went to: www.edmunds.com

I put in 'clean', the mileage you indicated & I used a zip code of 32724 because I don't know where you are in FL; I do know people in that zip code.

The results were:

Private Party: $16,700

Dealer retail: $18,600

Hope that this helps,

Jerry Baumchen

PS) On a personal note: I strongly put a lot of value into low mileage cars, so I would spend more than what Edmunds says. But I tend to keep my cars for a very looonnnggg time which allows me to amortize the additional $$$ over many years.

SCdroptop,

"It's like asking a guy, "do you like a 25 year old blond that was a cheerleader ten years ago"? Lots can happen in that time, and on paper she sounds great!"

You made me laugh out loud with this analogy! I guess I should read the rest of your post....LOL

Do the seats look like 12,000 miles like new, do you know how to feel or tell if a car looks like it has been repainted? Any chance in getting it looked at at an alignment shop? At 12,000 miles, I'd consider it the same if it was any 2002-2004. $19,000, and expect to put another $3000 over the course of the next 12 months, but that's what I would pay, not necessarily market price.

I am in the market, but at this time I'll probably wait til spring unless the perfect car comes up. I have seen many cars online and locally with many prices. Here are a few of my thoughts.
Go by Edmunds, this shows average prices actually paid, not loan values or estimated dealer list prices
18,000 miles means no more to me than say 45,000 miles
You will be able to find an excellent 2002 at $20,000 if you are patient
Pay a little more to get the perfect car for you
Check all threads on here for buying an SC430, there is exceptional info you can't afford to pass up.

Thanks for great info....have had an 06 sc and this one looks as good....has good paint and interior, minus some blown speakers....dealer asking 24.9...car fax info only shows lexus service which stopped at 12k.....seems to be in great shape for a 2002. Will try for 18-19k.

Yeah, I'd offer them $18k and tell them you need to do the timing belt/water pump (age not miles), 30k service (age not miles), ML speakers = $1200, new tires? Add another $800 etc etc. I'd say they'd probably settle for $21,500-$22,500 which is right in the range I thought it would be. That would be fair for all parties.

Go to: https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lex...-lexus/home.do

for full lexus maint history.

Keep in mind that prices for convertibles are lower in the winter than spring and summer, or at least the sellers will be less willing to make a deal.
