I need to replace the timing belt in my wife's SC430. I have been putting it off because we are so busy. I am curious is the 4.3 V8 an interference motor? I cannot find a definitive answer to this on the forum, though the general consensus seems to be that it is an interference motor. I am wondering if it is like a VTEC motor -- that is to say, interference if the motor has VTEC engaged, but would be fine if the belt snapped and VTEC was not engaged.

Yes the motor used in the SC430 IS an interference engine. Follow this link: http://www.gates.com/brochure.cfm?br...chGatesPopular Open the PDF document "Timing Belt Replacement Guide" the go to page 12, bottom right column. Although this guide only covers 2002-04 motors, they have not changed since, so all SC430s are interference engines which can be damaged should the belt fail.
Happy to see another San Diegan on the forum!
