Default factory warranty transferrable?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if a car still has factory warranty, will it be transferrable to me if the seller is the first owner? If so, can I extend the warranty after the factory warranty runs out (3 year/100k). Anyone encountered this before and how is it done?

thanks
henry

Original Lexus warranty is for the car, not the owner. Extended warranties from Lexus are owner specified but can be transferred. I do not know about 3rd party warranties.

Original Lexus manufacturer's warranty is transferrable-you just go to the dealer and they pull up by VIN...no paperwork involved, etc.

BEFORE the 4 year/50k factory warranty expires, you have an option to get a Lexus Extended Service Plan (Platinum, Gold and Powertrain options) from the dealer. This price is somewhat negotiable based on CL member's posts (do a search) up to 25% off the MSRP. About five years ago I bought a 3 year/100k mile Platinum for my 02 SC430 with 25k miles on it for $1750 from the dealer. The prices have probably gone up since then. The platinum is the way to go if you can afford it-no deductible!

http://www.lexusfinancial.com/consum...pg_VSAOverview

For a $50 fee, if you sell the car before the Platinum Warranty expires, you can transfer it to the new owner, OR I was told a while ago that they refund you the pro-rated amount of your warranty for whatever is left on it. I can personally confirm about the $50 transfer fee, however I did not explore the refund part, as the new owners who bought my car wanted the extension.

Regarding CPO-it is NOT transferrable.

Regarding third party warranties (non-Lexus)-read the fine print! There are thousands of plans out there and some good, some bad. Buyer beware!

This particular topic has been discussed many times-do a search...it's your friend!

Good luck

Thanks guys for the explanation. I found a 2008 sc430 for 43k and only has 12k miles on it. Since the seller the owner, the car should be safe with existing factory warranty.

Check the original in-service date...the warranty will be either over in 7k miles or perhaps as little as 9/10 months...if it's original inservice date was July/August of 2007.

I have a Platinum extended warranty on my RX. Sadly though it is up next month and the mileage is way below max.

Warranty has paid for a side mirror acted up and was replaced. The brake switch was replaced.

I have to take it in for a driver seat issue and this unusual noise coming from the center stack, a gurgling, chipping, boiling sound. They say it is the AC delflector motor acting up.

I am happy to have purchased the Platinum Warranty.

http://www.lexus.com/owners is a great tool

Any idea what is going on with this history. Does it still have factory warranty? Looks like it was a certified pre-own car when this guy purchased in 10/2009. I guess the factory warranty for this car should end in 6/23/2012.

JTHFN45Y589019876. I wonder if the factory warranty 6/23/08 or 7/11/08 (sell date)

I also came across another one, info below from lexus.com/owners. It was sold in 3/31/2008 but first service date recorded was 10/16/2007. I wonder if this ones factory warranty starts in 2007 or sell date of 3/31/2008. I guess i could call lexus dealer and ask them about it.

I would say on the first car Original new car warranty started 6/23/08. CPO is non-transferrable, so erase that from your mental rolodex! What you need to focus on is the original warranty. ***You can, however purchase an extended service plan at the time of purchase through any Lexus or even probably Toyo dealer. Platinum 3/100k for approximately $1800 with zero deductible is what I would recommend. A CPO car would be GREAT even though you don't benefit from the CPO warranty, you still benefit from the 162 point reconditioning process as well as a car that you know has been taken care of. So based on this assumption, you are correct-6/2012 warranty expires or 50k.

Second car, the I would say that the warranty started 2/29/08. Remember it's the date that the dealer sells the car, not any records for "pre-delivery" or "all altitudes" or even the state registry information.

Agree completely. In service means the 1st day the owner took it off the dealer lot and started driving it and that's looking like the March, 2008 date. Lexus 800 number can verify this for you.

JTHFN45Y589019876 - the Date of First Use (DOFU) is 7/11/2008 as it states on record. The warranty term would begin July 11, 2008.
