I have had both designs, and I must say that the twisted disgin made a big improvement on the car overall. The pie design looks very good in chrome but my vote has to go to the twisted.

It's hard to see how the wheels look on the car without a car in picture. Here are some shots I pulled together quickly of the same car (mine) in its first year with the pie plates, and later, after I replaced them with the star caps, as discussed above. I have tried to find shots from similar angles to better show the difference. I hope this helps.

IMO the pie plates make the car look more futuristic. While the twisties make it look like most every other car "stock" wheels. I got my SC to be unique and I think the pie plates tie into that notion.

Thanks so much for the pics. I have some pics of the pie plates on my car the day I took it home for inspection, was a crappy day, was raining. Just snapped 2 pics with the PP (pie-plates). Now I have the ST (Star Twisters).

There is merit in PP. I see it. But I am partial to the ST.

Still no examples of a "chromed" pie plate on a chrome oem rim. I just might have to look into it since there aren't any out there. I like unique applications.

I see that this Twister option is about $120 per piece. Quite expensive I should say.

If you can tolerate non-OEM parts on your Lexus another option is the less expensive plated plastic twist center caps available from various ebay sellers. I bought a set a few months ago to see what they were like - about $110 for four. My situation is that the existing stock wheels have some curb rash and figured that I could either restore them or wait until I can replace them with Tourmalines (my preferred solution). But I will wait to do that until the tires are gone which should be about 3-4 years. So in the meantime I wanted to replace the pie plates (badly) and decided to go the inexpensive twist cap route.

When I bought mine the only type that was available was chrome plated so that's what I have. I was completely impressed with the plating quality and the fit was perfect. When fastened into place they are very rigid. I have painted (Millenium Silver) wheels so I will need to spray the caps to make them match, but they really didn't look ridiculous just as they are. The paint should be about $45 for both color and clear coat so for a total of about $150 I should have matching twist hubs and wheels while I wait out the new wheels. I think that will be a winter project - the way the weather is looking the SC probably may not see daylight until February anyway.

Those of you who have OEM twisted covers, are they made of metal or plastic? Are the center lexus logo fixed or removable?

As I recall, they are plastic, but not a brittle plastic.
The center lexus logo are [sic] fixed.

Here's the one-of-a-kind 2005 Pebble Beach wheels. I didn't like them at all on my car, wish they would have been all chrome instead of gunmetal twists with chrome base. Mine were jacked up from Grandma who owned before me licking the curbs! Plus on top of that it had the RFT's on it with 5/32-7/32 tread left, rough ride from the start. They were on my car for a total of literally 24 hours!

I believe the original wheel design was intended to hide or camouflage the disc and calipers. IMO a more open wheel design just showed too much and really distracted from the overall beauty of the car. After I changed to the Tourmaline style wheel I knew right away I need to find a way to improve the look. Hence the red caliper covers on my 02.
