I've not read or heard of a problem like that. Instrument panel also changed in 06 with backlit LEDs etc. 02-05 was the old style but no problems.

What does this mean? Got my curiosity up.

Meh!

You can search on the subject but the quick of it is the 02 and 2010 are 95% the same. Build quality has gotten worse over the years, the early models were hand made, later models have added features and updated materials. The CPU that runs the ECU on an 02 is just above what you need to play pong By 06 sales numbers were in the drain 02-04s were sold out while still on the boat. This means the higher numbers of early models flood the market, making it much easier to get a deal.

Some like the old tranny better, none of the, "refinements" changed hp, performance or mpg. Find one you love, that someone cared for. Many were owned by women, which probably had easier lives but less service performed.

I have seen more than a few 02 & 03 sell under 18k with low miles. Bargain.

I sold my 03 with 64k miles on it for 22k 3 months ago. The car was perfect and trouble free. If you're patient, you can find a good one for 20k.

what i meant was it's hard to find black leather interior in the sc430.. also rare to find on the sc300/400... i'm still looking to find the one i really like.. i just need to sc430 to run 4 years without big issues.. and i drive about 30k miles/year.. so if i find with under 50k miles, i'll be about 170k miles in 4 years. i'm hoping it will last that long!!!

I thought Black was the most offered color on interiors? I could be wrong.....Here in Florida, black was not an option for me, I'd like to keep the skin on the backs of my legs intact!!

Well you might consider an after market or 3rd party warranty as part of the cost of the car. When I bought my 02 I had some of the same concerns, but I won't be putting on those many miles. I found just what I wanted at the Lexus Dealer, a transferable four year extended warranty. I factored it into the cost of ownership, as a peace of mind issue.

Some members have had a substantial return on the cost of their warranties, while others like me, haven't had a single problem. Nevertheless, the comfort knowing if something major does happen, like a retractable roof motor failing, or package tray issue, or most anything else, I'm covered for the next four years.

Default 2002 114K miles

I have a 02, with just over 114K miles looks and drives excellent, not a single hitch with it. Maintenance is big with me. I hate the run flat tires i have on it. but other than that. fantastic car. Silver and black....

Looking to lower it soon and some 19's and i will be set.
