Default GPS read error

Hi Guy,

My GPS / Nav gave me an error today. I checked the DVD it looks ok, no scratches etc. It a SC430 2002 model - Australian right hand drive version.

I have an original DVD map as well as an updated backup copy from a RX330. Both DVD disk when inserted gives me the "Unable to read data. Check if Map DVD is correct."

The GPS system has been running fine. Any way of resetting the system??

When I switch the ignition off then on the map will appear for about 10 seconds, then the above error appears.

Any ideas people.

Thanks.

First thing comes to mind is whether or not you are using the correct disc. So much has been mentioned on the forum (search: navigation) about different gen systems/discs, etc. Here is a link to the different part numbers of the disc you should have. I would bookmark it for future reference as I did.

There has been extensive threads on unable to read the disk errors.

If that is what the problem is, what several have found is the motor in the disk drive gave out. There has been limited success in going in and fixing it. An easily found replacement motor hasn't really been identified yet, if memory serves me well. I think at least one user was able to go in and lubricate it and got it running again. I also seem to remember that someone found a shop that will service the module at a reasonable price.

You will find several threads if you do a search on "no disk detected" or "NAV disk" or "NAV ECU". (Also keep in mind some folks spell it "disc".)

If you are under warranty, the dealer should cover this.

I agree with the others there are several threads. But with that said, I have a few questions. So you have an 02. Do you have or are you using the original 02 disk? (The North American Disk is all blue, with a north american emblem) You mentioned an RX330 disk, what year? What version? Did you install it? Was it a newer gen 2/3 disk, i.e. newer version? If you did, that upgraded the operating system and the original disk will no longer function correctly.

There is a current thread going between myself and gabelex on navigation antenna problems. The thread includes info on how to get into the service mode and run diagnostics on the components. Probably a good read for your issues.

I was using a backup copy from a RX330 which had a 2008 build date map. The original map that came with the car (I brought the SC430 secondhand) was a 2006 build date map. Both DVD maps were working fine.

No warranty as I brought the car privately. I got a guy who fixed my 12 stacker CD from my SC400, so I might ask him if he knows how to repair it - if it is a mechanical problem.

Here is a picture of the original DVD that came with the car.

What year is hte RX330? Looking at the website I mentioned earlier it looks as if the 2004 RX330 has a gen 2/3 system which would be compatible with your 02 430. However, if the RX330 is an 05/06 it is using a gen 4 which is different than your SC430. If that is the case I believe the discs wouldn't be compatible.

Well doing a little searching on the internet reveals the Australian DVD and NAV systems seem to be completely different then the ones used in North America. I was not able to located a similar Australian site to the one we have https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lex...igationmaps.do Do you know of one? There is an owner's area, http://www.lexus.com.au/services/benefits/login but it requires a special login from your "DriveCare card."

Did you read the thread I mentioned earlier? If so could you access the service mode for the system? Now seeing that Lexus uses a different vendor for their mapping services downunder, it may not work like it does on the North American Disk/Nav system.

The EU/AU version of FSM shows the same procedure for getting to the maintenance menus as in the US version.

OK thanks for the hint, I've got the following messages on the screen. Any ideas? I've also took a picture of the Denso version if this is any help?

Keep the record. Were also looking for the screen before the first photo. The one listing all the different components. (refer back to the other thread for a screen shot from the FSM)

Press and hold the Code CLR for at least three seconds to clear the error codes. Then disconnect the battery for 30 minutes to reset everything. Reconnect and start the car, go back into service mode to see what codes come up.
