Timing Belt Change

Lead Lap
The difference in price quotes I read on a timing belt change shock me. All I needed was a timing belt change. Dealer said water pump, tensioner, pulleys, etc. were good by inspection. Total cost with parts and a loner car at the Lexus dealership was $570. (BTW, I felt safe not having the water pump and other parts replaced because they are covered under a third party warranty for another two years).

Hey grabber2, I called both dealerships one day And the toyota service center said they could do it for far less than the lexus dealer. Of course I wanted the whole description of what they would do for comparison. I know they are under different ownership so maybe good old fashioned competition was in play.

RGP-sounds like a wi$e financial decision! Like buying insurance. Thanks for sharing. If you don't mind me asking, how much did the entire service cost you? Lots of lurkers and curious would like to know. I'm a big advocate of replacing due to time for all the reasons you mentioned. I've seen too many radiator hoses, serpentine belts and other rubber parts (including transmission and motor mounts) go bad over time.
I race motorcycles and have had cam timing chains go. When that happens it gets very expensive ($500 to $1000 in parts alone depending how fast the engine is revving at the time) - multiply it times 8 -10 for a car. I'd rather not have that happen to my SC.
