Question Wheel Spacers - Yea or Nay?

A buddy has a 2002 SC430 with a set of aftermarket 18inch wheels, which he loves, but they only came in one offset, and as a result are pretty "tucked in" looking on the car. For a daily driver, are spacers OK on the SC430? He's not going for the full flush look with a really aggressive spacer, just something a bit better than what he has now.

If you do a search...tons of spacer threads. I have them and they are OK. Mine is a weekend car, but no vibrations.

Depends on the thickness of a spacer you plan on going with. Typically a 5mm spacer is good on OEM studs; any thicker, it's highly recommended you have extended studs installed. I personally would not go with any slip-on spacer thicker than 10mm. If you need a spacer thicker than a 10mm you should look into bolt on spacers.

I have 25mm in the rear, nothing in the front, yet. Never had any problems. I'm running stock wheels. I have the ones that have the lugs already installed, take off the wheel, install spacer, torque, then put on wheel and do the same. Make sure any that you buy are concentric and have the lip for centering the wheel when you are installing it. Otherwise you need hub rings. Also before you buy any spacers check your wheels, for space between the lug holes on the wheel. There needs to be a relief in the wheel for the car studs to fit into. Hope this clears things up for you.

I'm staying Stock as far as wheels with my recent purchase of a brand new set of Tourmalines. I do plan to drop her with Megen EZs about 1.25/1.5?

My first question is can I use bolt-on spacers with Tourmaline wheels?

My second question is what's a good size to go with? I would assume being that all my wheels have the same offset that the spacer would be the same for all four?

PLAYTYM I have Tourmalines, see my post about spacers. Good luck. I went with 25mm front and 35mm rear. See pics inthe post.

Mandyfig,

Read your post on the spacers and I must say that setup looks great on a white SC like ours with the "Tourmalines"!

After looking at your pictures...I'm wondering if I even need to lower?

FYI...

I used to be a crew chief for a race car driver at one of our local tracks and I would always tourque to 86ft/lbs.

Question...

When you add spacers is it necessary to have an alignment done?

Personally I'd add a bit of additional toe in. Exactly how much is a trial & error. Just keep an eye on the wear patterns of your tires.
