It's been about a week for me post install and I really love my new Injen cold air intake as well. I installed the heat shield and am curious to know if it muffles the sound. If so, I'd rather have the sound versus any extra performance. The install was very straightforward if you just take your time. The pics I downloaded from the forum that some of posted were also very helpful.
I also had a custom muffler shop drop my stock muffler from under the trunk and replace the plumbing with straight pipes aft of the resonators. We used the same tailpipes so from above the car, there's no change. Once you start the engine though, there's a world of difference. The sound is great and the cost was only $250.
It's amazing once you remove the stock muffler and original air box from under the hood just how much stuff comes off. Both modifications were easy, and if you same all the OEM stuff, could easily allow the car to be put back to original although I can't imagine any one wanting to.
My final project is to replace the back seat with a custom shelf of sorts similar to a Porche or Benz. It's always bothered me since I'm 6 3" and serves no real purpose. I always felt it really detracted from the concept of a sport cars.
Really appreciate everyone's input in this forum. It really helped me take the leap of faith with both modifications and the pics were also extremely beneficial as well.

Up from the archives...anybody install the airbox? I recently put in a prototype airbox made from 1" foam. I can tell that it works. I used to feel the temperature of the filter of the intake (less the airbox) and boy it was HOT (I will measure temp via temp gun later). After putting the airbox, the intake filter's temp was definitely a few degrees lower (at least 6~10).
I will post my crude prototype airbox.

Hello fellas,
I have also encountered the problem of not having an OBD canister, and I'm talking about an 2006 LS430. God it freaked me out!
I just wished that they would note something like this down.
But what I didn't understand is, what did you guys so with the opening on the intake?
I know someone just clogged it, and someone put the hose on it.
What is the safest way to go about this?
Thanks.

All I did was run a rubber hose under the engine cover and plug it with a suitable size bolt and clamp.
Cheers

Hi Steve,
Long time no hear.
I am missing something on this conversation. I feel like I did not do something when I installed my CAI.
What are you guys talking about?
Thanks.
Mandy
PS: Dis I ever post a pic of my completed air box for the intake?

Holding up quite well. Might need to replace the gorilla tape once in a while.

Hope life is treating you good.
Been around watching, just not posted much.
The European version of the SC430 does not have an OBD cannister, so there is nowhere to connect that hose to. I ran the hose under the engine cover (because I think it looks better) and just plugged the end.
You did post a picture before, of your air box, but to be perfectly honest Mandy I think you have made your beautiful engine bay 'not so beautiful' IMHO. Not sure if the benefits are worth it, but then I live in a much cooler country than you and maybe it makes it better where you are.
Take care.
Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve,
You are very kind to say that my engine bay was cool.
In Georgia, during summertime (we hardly see spring anymore, winter to summer in a heartbeat) the summer temps are so high. With intake air at 95~100 degrees F and the heat gain from the engine bay (which I have seen a high as 10 degrees) the SC is penalized with it.
So therefore I sacrificed looks and went for function. I even went to the extent of installing a diverter in the grille to guide the air into that section of the engine bay. I went all out.
The good thing is it will not take a lot to undo it. For now it is staying.
I am now in the middle of seriously considering doing my timing belt change myself.
That’s the next big project!
Keep warm.
Mandy
