I have the bird's eye maple and the **** is definitely darker than the rest of the wood. The steering wheel matches very closely to the wood of the dash.

Default Just $0.02 worth

I personally like the variation in colors of the wood/veneer. It is more interesting than just all the same....then it would all look like "plastic". I have the Birdseye Maple and it appears to be Hard Rock Maple steering wheel/gear shift. The color of the wood treatments in the cabin are only slightly different. It makes sense that the color varies with the grain of the different woods. It isn't an eye sore, at all!!!!!
