Jerry, the black pearl shine like chrome but are black. I have a set on my (her) SC, so I didn't have to change them out. I did do a set on our last 2002 ES, real easy. The pins are ( I think) just for alignment. If someone is going to change out all their emblems, I used tape as a guide to keep them straight. (How high or low and to keep them even.)
I also did a set on a Mazda MX-6 they were gold. On the SC I painted a chrome license plate frame, (metal) screw hiding chrome (plastic) covers, and SCs for the wheels with paint from a hobby shop. It was black, but a see through paint, if that makes sense. It worked on the metal and the plastic both. Has about the same effect, but the SCs you don't see as easy, (they are on some chrome twisties) the license plate frame and screw covers are still holding up pretty well and I did them three years ago. I would practice on some cheap chrome stuff before I tried it on the SC.
As far as the dealer, I think they were an option from the dealer, you might try some aftermarket places on the internet. That is where I got the ones for the ES. Dealer wanted $800. installed and $300. for pick-up. And that was in 2003. Told the salesman he was a crook. He is still there, and I haven't spoken a word to him, and we bought two more cars from the dealership and been back many times. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input; knowledge is what this forum is all about.
I know that these cars are not in the 'cheap' category but those prices are IMO simply nutz.
Does anyone have any suggestions on the best 2-sided tape if someone wanted to just remove the existing emblems, paint them black & re-install?

most automotive stores carry 3M Scotch 06376 Automotive Attachment Tape in varying widths. Quarter inch size should work perfectly with badging. I've used on mods to my other car adding chrome moldings to sides and rear.
Also if I remember correctly, there were some previous threads on painting or was it plastic dip for an interesting look. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...cs-inside.html

That info is going into my 'SC file' today.
