Default Nav disc 8.1--Newbie question

Hi,
I recently purchased a 02 silver sc. The seller doesn't have the nav disc ( gen 2/3). Would nav disc 8.1 gen 5 disc work ?

Thanks

Nope. You need a GEN 2/3 disk. 02s are Gen 2/3 systems UNLESS modified, upgraded by the owner. If the upgrade occurred, the highest straight swap system would be Gen 4 and were good through the 2009 model year. SCs skipped V5 and went to V6 for the final year of production, 2010.

The current disk version is 10.1. Version 11 is due out any moment now. (Usually late September, early October annually.) However, remember once published, the data on the disk is already one year old. Lexus says it takes that long to compile, verify and publish.

Here's a link with more info regarding versions..http://drivers.lexus.com/lexusdriver...igationmaps.do

I do not yet own an SC but I am shopping....Is it possible to upgrade one's navi say in a 2008 to Version 6 and what would be involved? Is that why the older models have what I call a "grainy" nav screen? I look forward to your response!

Thanks

you can upgrade to 10.1 but you have to make sure its version 2/3. otherwise you need gen 4 computer change. here is the oem cd from fleabay

Regarding upgrading to version 6 nav from a version 4 2008 vehicle.... it's doable IF you have very large buckets of money you have no other good use for. The 2010 SC, the only version 6 nav in the SC model, integrated all of the electronics into the display screen where you nav is now. That includes stereo, climate control, nav, phone, Ipod etc etc. Where you see the cassette player and radio display is a blank stainless steel plate in the 2010 model.
