Another update on this item, JohnnyCake was correct in his earlier post. It turns out that the lights will only turn off immediately IF you open the door BEFORE you turn the ignition off. If you do not, then the lights will turn off after you open the door.

Sorry, what is wrong with just flipping the switch?
I never liked using auto b/c I have other vehicles that are old skool and I am sure to have many dead batteries.

This is something you might be able to cajole your dealer to do for free, especially if you are having other expensive service done.

I was trying to tweak a setting just so and the service writer thought it would be easier to just have the mechanic come out with the electronic box and do the modification in the service lane with me. It literally takes less than a minute.
