Exclamation Brake Fluid - When To Change?

I have a 130K+ mile SC430 and since I got it recently I do not know when (if ever) the break fluid was changed. Is the fluid "filetime" or does it need to be changed? I am not experiencing any issues with braking.

If the brake fluid is low, will the car give me a warning light?

Thank you.

if the brake fluid is low yes you will get a warning light. but when the brake fluid is low it usually means your brake pads are worn down since the fluid pushes out the brake caliper pistons out more due to the lower brake pad. its recommended to change it every 3 years at least. the brake fluid over time absorbs moisture and could rust out your brake system lines.

3 years or every 30k miles is what I do. Brake fluid definitely ages and needs to be periodically replaced. Another indicator of condition is color and clarity - its typically very light yellow and crystal clear when new, if it has darkened significantly, or gone brown, or you can see lots of particles floating in it, get it changed immediately.

I usually change / flush the brake fluid once a year, sometimes 1.5 years. Its easy to do, why compromise on the safety system.

Given that you have just purchased the vehicle, I would recommend that you do a complete change of all fluids the vehicle uses. That way you know what has been changed and what is being used. Cheap insurance in the scheme of things.

I did this with mine within 2 weeks of purchase. Every fluid was replaced with AMSoil products, all filters were changed and the spark plugs as well.

harleydjce, thank you for your response. Could you please list the specific fluids and filters which you changed right away when you purchased your car?

Thank you

How much brake fluid do you need to flush the system and put new fluid in?
