My SC got KEYED!
Hi everyone. I'm sure it's happened to other SC owners, but it doesn't make it any easier to live with. Some idiot scratch an "X" in the side panel of my car! It's only about an inch and a halve square, but looks like ****. I have a black 2006 SC. Any suggestions on how to fix this with minimal damage to the surrounding paint? Should I carefully touch it up with paint, or do I need to have a paint shop do it? Thanks for the help!

Man, I hate that! Can't understand why someone would do that. How deep did the scratch go? Just a surface scratch in the clear coat or through the paint to the metal. Scdroptop had a similar problem while he was at a coffee shop. He documented how he removed the scratch in his post and reported he was satisfied with making the scratch less visible. look at https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...501-keyed.html Good luck! BTW, I always start with the QUIXX Repair System that can be found at most local auto stores.

You may have to make an insurance claim under comprehensive coverage and get the entire panel repainted to really get it fixed depending on depth of the scratch.
Vandalism is typically covered under the comprehensive portion of your car insurance and a claim like this is not held against you in terms of rate increases. Make sure you take pictures of the damage and keep them safe so if you ever trade or sell the car you can show the buyer that there was no damage at all to the door or the car's structure and that it was not in an accident.

My step daughter has had multiple fender benders over the last 3-4 years on her Honda Civic, she made insurance claims and has had multiple panels on her car repaired and repainted. We checked her car's carfax report last summer and it was 100% absolutely clean. Carfax reporting of accidents is random and partial at best.
