I did this last year on my SC430. Since I have both LS430 and SC430 I felt the process was exactly the same. Basically, you remove the clip with a flat head screw driver. Once the clip is gone, the arm comes off with a little tap. No need to get your hand in there.

You're right it's totally different. (1) First lift the top to a certain point so that you can get to & remove the bottom clip. (2) Close the top & open the trunk. (3) Use a BROOM or GOLF CLUB to support the trunk.

(4) Remove (pry bottom part of the strut first & then the top.) (5) Replace new struts. I had never done it before & only took me about 10 minutes.

I hope this helps.

It’s time to replace the trunk lid struts on my 2007.
Purchased the PM3808s from Lift Supports Depot (Amazon)
see YouTube installation video in post #44

Those are the same supports I installed on my 2006 SC. Work great.

Thanks Dennis, I did it once before on my old 2002, what a difference in the way it opens now and it literally took five minutes to replace them.
beautiful day to do the job, 77°

for others, use the longer screw driver to open the clip, it is more difficult to reach with the shorter screw driver. For those USAF electronics guys, you may remember this screw driver called a “7-level screwdriver”

Ok, so how do you know your supports need replacing? I'm thinking mine might?? When I hit the unlatch button the trunk unlocks but barely moves, I have to wedge my fingers in that slot to get the trunk to open. Do they make a set that will open the trunk upon unlatching? I can hit the button on the wife's Charger and the trunk pops all the way open, that would be nice.

I do not find that on Amazon anywhere, the part numbers I'm seeing is PM1010 and PM101-1. One is with and one is without spoiler. I'm guessing the only difference would be weight.

I don’t know of any strut that will lift the SC430 trunk lid from latch release. I do know when I lift it about 12-18 inches the lift struts takeover and open it all the way.
isn’t the Charger trunk lid much lighter and do they use lift struts or a torsion system?

So I'm thinking the Charger lid would be heavier, its huge! I think they are struts, I'll have to look when she gets home.. grocery night and I'll be emptying the trunk.

So you said you got the PM3808's and the link you gave me is for PM1010's , but I spoke with the guy from Lift Supports and he said the new part # is PM3808 and if I order the PM1010's I will actually get the PM3808's. Also a little FYI, they have both the with and without spoiler units listed separately and they are exactly the same, they have to list it that way to appease Amazon.

I have never seen or heard of an SC430 without the spoiler. I guess there may be one somewhere, but I don't know where.

I was just going by the tag (see pic above) on the struts, but i saw the PM1010 on amazon. I can assure you that Amazon link is the correct strut and these struts are working much better than the OEMs i replaced.
BTW, the OEMs are made by KYB, see pic above.

no spoiler and no NAV are rare, i have seen pics of both here on CL. There are a few no spoilers in the thread link below. Also, the spoiler was an optional item when purchased.

Looks like a torsion system on the Charger.
Oh, and I ordered those struts, should be here Monday I'll see if and what difference they make.

So I changed the struts today, piece of cake to do, maybe 15-20 minutes? I think it made no difference, still have to force my fingers in the crack at the back of the trunk to open. :-(

These are the ones that were on the car

And the new ones I installed.

And just in case...

The struts do nothing to lift the trunk when it's unlocked. They hold the trunk up.

My '07 is the same way. When I pop the trunk, it only rises about 1/2". Just enough to grab and raise.

I am sorry you wasted your money on trunk struts.
I knew mine needed replacing when the trunk started to drift down.
