SC430 Rollover Picures
I was browsing the web and came across these pictures of an SC430 after a rollover accident.
Makes me wonder how the driver fared in this situation. The front window frame came down lower than I would have expected.

Airbags NOT deploying
Friday I was t boned and no airbags deployed in my lexus sc430. Thankful for the steels bars in the door.. But no airbags deploying doesnt seem to be a mystery to SC430 owners... Anyone else experience this ? I am home suffering from injuries sustained in this accident.. Not a happy camper for this car to have failed airbags.

I agree that any car can roll over given the right circumstance. No airbags deployed b/c none of the sensors located in the front bumper or doors were impacted...and remember, they have to be impacted with sufficient force as well. I'm suspicious about the roof crush though. If it really collapsed that much, there would be damage to the headrests..front, and especially rear which contain the roll bars. The leather and plastic finish is completely intact. (We can assume the roof was open b/c it appears to be intact and neatly folded in the trunk). The A-pillars may have collapsed during maneuvers to flip the car back over post-accident, or during transport around the salvage yard lot. They are really only designed to withstand the initial impact. After that, all bets are off as to its integrity. Also, it may not have even been a roll-over. The windshield can crush from submarining under the rear of a semi...in which case this guy may have been lucky and survived. The other damage can be from another car or cars hitting him (pile-up scenario).
It always made me nervous that these cars were never subjected to independent crash tests by the NHTSA or the IIHS. Basically, we are trusting toyota on this one. That said, they have an exemplary safety record (let's keep the unintended acceleration debate out of this one) and I doubt they would risk that.

Extreme example, and apparently driver survived with relatively minor injuries: http://www.socalevo.net/index.php?op...topic=101633.0 I guess the knee/leg airbags wont do much at that speed. I have my doubts as to the accuracy of the reported speed.
