Anyone actually tried the one-person manual top open/close instructions?
Many moons ago, Habious posted the Lexus TSB for how to get your top open/closed manually if there is a failure with only one person (unlike the different instructions in the manual that require two people). See link here.. I think lots of us carry these instructions in our glove box -- I know I do.
After a recent scare, I was thinking I should try this just to be sure I could do it quickly. I'm figuring that my top will probably malfunction when I am trying to put it up due to a sudden monsoon, given my luck. Doing something the second time is always easier.
Anyway, I suggested to Habious that we try this and jokingly said we'd use his car. His reaction was not just NO, but rather HELL NO!! That made me think that maybe this was not such a good thing to try.
Bottom line -- has anyone actually used these instructions and if so, what problems did you run into and what tips can you pass along.

I understand the logic of your statement but, I suppose no ones wants to mess with it considering all that could go wrong. So will you let us all know how it goes?

It's nice to know that the instructions are accurate, but even Lexus says that the procedure is difficult. I keep the instructions in the car just to be sure, but from my reading here on this forum since the car's introduction (and before), my impression is that the top mechanism, for all its complexity, is remarkably reliable. A search here will reveal only a few remarks about top operation or failure.
That's pretty good news.

Just to clarify...I didn't tell JohnnyCake he couldn't try it, just that he couldn't try it using MY car as the test mule.
He's welcome to try it out on his car...I'll even offer to hold the camera while he's doing it.

you can use my car but you will have to come to Phila . Or wait until I mess up again on some other mod and I will have to come to you . I had a great time last time I saw both of you .
