Cup Holder

Cup Holder
My cup holder hasn't been opening and closing properly, plus it wouldn't hold a cup well. So, I removed it to see if I could fix it. I can't get the flip section out. It looks like the pivot pins need to come out, but I don't know how to get them out. Do I need to just replace it or does anyone have another suggestion?
Also, if I have to replace it, I found a new one that does not have the wood trim cover on it. How can I remove my wood trim and how do I secure it on the new one?
Thanks for the help.

Getting the cup holder and the surrounding wood trim out is a multi-step process:
1. Open the center console, the radio cover door, ashtray cover and move the gear shiftier into neutral and remove, unscrew the handle to the gear shifter. Set the parking brake. You can use the shift override switch to move the transmission without starting the car. (remove the cover by the P symbol with a flat blade screw driver and depress the switch.)
2. With the center console open, using two thumbs on the back of seat heater control(red arrows), push forward the module will partially pop out. Careful here the wire is still connected. Disconnect and set aside.
3. Remove the Cigarette lighter and ash tray
4. The wood trim piece holds the cup holder, lighter receiver and switch for opening and closing the radio door. It has five attachment points on each side (more red arrows), consisting of pressure clips, alignment pins and a slide hook. ( See the photo below ) You start at the back, near the seat heater switches, carefully prying up and back, working your way forward. There are two or three set of wires you must worry about. The cigarette lighter power and the radio cover door switch wire. Both are modular connectors, which have a clip that must be depressed so it can be disconnected. A small tool like a flat blade screwdriver and an extra set of hands are useful here but not necessary. There may be a third wire inserted into a blank spot (green arrow). If it is there it is not connected to anything.
The cup holder mechanism is held to the trim piece by Philips head screws. You can take it apart and service it from there...
Regarding holding drinks in place...well...you're right, the design has much to criticize. But it's better than my lap.
