I'm working with the person who sets up group buys for these headers. Maybe they can help contact PPE to make sure if we buy these and if we have similar problems, they can help out.

I would think they should offer some sort of warranty for the first year or so.

They seem to be quite the stand up company, i don't feel that you would have an issues with PPE just make sure you check your shorties before installing

I was looking at getting some of these headers for my LS. This is the first time I've heard of issues with the PPE headers. Is this a common defect?

^^^^No it's not. I'm not sure what happened here. PPE reached out to the OP. The OP never contacted them. PPE is the header of choice for the ISF crowd, me included, and really the only choice for other Lexus applications. I know PPE and their technicians and shop equipment are first rate. IMHO, their workmanship is second to none.

Oh, I see. A lot of our local IS-F guys run the PPE headers, and I've seen a few on the UZ GS' and LS'. That's good to hear they make good quality stuff.

I-FORCE, can you comment on the performance changes with these headers?

I don't care much for peak power gain, I mostly care about the sounds, or power delivery.

Sounds wise, since you still got the stock exhaust, you probably can't hear any differences huh?

How do you gauge the power gain, did you dyno it before and after? Or just butt dyno?

Did it change the power delivery? Like did you lose low end torque and gain high end pull?

Thanks ahead

I'm curious about the power gains on these headers as well. I hear it's a 20 horsepower gain and it makes a huge difference in acceleration according to the LS and GS guys.

Its not that i didn't contact them, i just rectified the issue myself because i couldn't have kept the car inop till i send the manifolds back and receive em again, i though the fix will cost shipping PPE will probably not compensate me for my trouble or installation charges.

Regarding the performance gain questions..

It literally transformed the experience. You can properly feel the extra power, 20hp is a minimum IMO, the SC spins it rears on an open 3.615 rear end throughout most of first gear almost every-time i jump on it from a stand still, the motor feels a lot livelier and the SC just gets up to speeds a lot faster, after installing those headers you really feel how the motor was chocked from the stockers and how relieved it is after the installation.

Regarding sound, don't expect any, it may sound a little deeper but so little its not worth mentioning. Lets not forget my SC is otherwise bone stock. I am considering a BFI intake mod but would like some input from someone who's done it on an SC before before i venture off on my own.

I ended up running into the other problem which has been rectified on the newer version of the headers, my steering shaft started contacting the manifold when turning quarter right. I also ended up fixing that by simply removing a metal dust boot on the link. Don't know how safe it is but i had to do it .

Here is a pic of what i removed (polished looking silver bit on the steering shaft). You can see how close it looks to the manifold in the pic

Hope this helps.. Goodluck, i approve of the product even with the issues i have faced, the performance gain was well worth it.

I-Force

I did a BFI mod and posted it but w/o performance info. I can't hear any sound difference but I should have the dyno comp done next week I hope and will post that. I added a 3" duct from the airbox to the area in front of the radiator.

Awesome.. Did you notice a power gain at all?

I was thinking of removing the pads around the right headlight and ducting that area in order of getting cold air from around the light

A brief thread of what you did with pics would be awesome.

Thanks

Moe

Nice Job..

Im a little sceptic on cutting the sheet-metal to enlarge the access hole.

How was the power-gain?

Given that I also just cleaned throttle body and MAF its hard to say any power gain I feel is due to the extra air so I am waiting to get time on a dyno. I still need to finish off the mod smoothing out the jagged edges in the metal and making clean looking hole and painting matt black to match the surroundings. It is not much material to remove to widen the opening and I didn't remove any of the rubber curtain, so I dont feel any pain by doing it ... But yes I do need to finish it off properly.

Back to your thread though I am very tempted to go with the header and exhaust mods. Many posts describe that the real power gains are with all three mods ... intake, exhaust and headers. Intake alone wont bump the HP much. I have a week to pull the trigger on the PPE GB.

Do it! you will not regret it..

Let put it this way, i had a Supercharged Tundra. Doug Thorley (great product for the record, the best i have ever come across in the industry) advertised they're long tube headers for the Blown 5.7 to put out an extra 50+ to the wheel (many people dynoed they're trucks and have confirmed the claim). I installed a set on my truck and was very impressed with the extra power especially in the midrange.

PPE advertise 20 or so engine if im not mistaken and let me tell you, the power gain i felt on the SC was far superior to that on the Supercharged 5.7. I realise that i am comparing apples to oranges here but it totally blew me away.

as all followers of this thread know, i ran into quite a few issues throughout but the final result is very impressive to say the least; wouldve been astonishing had i not had to deal with downtime and rectification costs which you guys wouldn't (i hope)

Best of luck

Moe
