Default New SC430 owner + question

Hi. Excited to finally own a SC430, a 2005 with 70,000 miles, silver with ecru interior. Also glad to have found this forum. It's a wealth of great information. I especially like the stikies on buyers guide and FAQ. Looks like several mods that can be done too make a great car even better.

The main thing I'm trying to figure out is a cup holder that sticks closed. It needs a little help opening. Once started it opens all the way just fine. I can hear something rubbing, but have not been able to figure out exactly where. Saw in another post how to take the console apart. I've done that, but still couldn't see where. Has anyone else encountered this and have suggestions?

If it's the cup holder itself, just replace it.

I have that too but not too bad. It opens with a little help. I opened and closed it repeatively when I first got it and got a bit better. I dont use it much though because it is so shallow.

Mine does that. Try cleaning all the cup holder pieces and make sure they are not sticky.

pull up the pannel with the cup holder, clean the hinges and stuff in the back and then add some WD40...that will make things a bit better. If its something broken then get a whole new assembly off ebay for around 180 and call it a day

Default Cup holder fixed

I took this apart today to see if I could find why it was sticking closed. I disconnected all the connectors and took it completely out. Then removed the cup holder from the console so I could get a good look. I found two coins stuck in bottom.. The dime didn't cause much problem, but the nickel was thick enough that it would rub and stick. After a little coaxing, both coins came out. A good cleaning and lube and this works as god as new.

Agreed. I call it the double cell phone holder. Useless unless you want to hold on to the top of your cup when you turn. I wind up putting my drinks in the rear of the console and reaching back.

The cup holders do work great as a cell phone holder. I use a cassette adapter that goes to my iPhone earphone out jack that I use for music. The phone sets nicely in the cup holder.

I'm really happy too that the cup holders close and open now the way they are supposed to. Much cleaner look than open all the time.

Can you just pull up the whole cup holder assembly for cleaning?

I did not see a way to take apart the cup holder and get access to the lower section without taking out the top part of the console. I followed the instructions in the link below and it's really easy. . However, once the top part of the console is loose, I think the cup holder could be removed without disconnecting the electrical connections for the lighter, etc. There are 4 screws that hold it to the console that are access from the bottom.

I agree as well that its too shallow and have to hold the tops when turning. And as others have stated...its turned into my cell phone holder.

I never open the cup holder and I put my cell phone in the ash tray. I just pulled out the little cigarette "snuffer" and the phone fits nicely
