power outlet provision in SC 430 trunk?
Hi,
Am looking to get a 12v power outlet fitted in the trunk. A quick search didn't show anything up so thought I'd ask. Has anyone done this, is it straightforward etc?
Thanks in advance
Mike

Haven't done it myself, but it would not be too difficult there are several grounding points under the trunk garnish panels. Then it's just a few of decisions. 12v all the time or tied to the ignition? What will the "load" be on new circuit? Where to place the receptical so it does interfere with other components and can be easily accessed. If it were me, I'd just extend the circuit from the center console which is already set up for charging/running devices as well as being protected by a fuse. Whatever you decide it will take time and effort. You'll need to take at least half the trunk apart. And, if you decide to extend the circuit I suggested you'll have to pull out the bottom of the rear seats (one piece) to feed the wire through the rear firewall (passenger side opening). Or you could just piggyback and splice into another existing circuit in the trunk area.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your advice, it's much appreciated. I'll have a look at the existing outlet in the console as extending from there may be the most straightforward solution. Am looking at powering a cool box sited in the trunk area used for the spare wheel so it would be drawing a fair load.
Cheers

Remember
A coolbox cooling system is a heatpump, The heat inside is transferred to the outside of the coolbox. So there has to be some kind of ventilation in the trunk. Maybe there is maybe there isn't...
The trunk temperature of my dark SC in the sun is pretty hot. (chocolate sometimes melt )

Yeah, definitely do some research on this. I looked into it once and decided it was a "no-go." The small 12v portable models seem under powered. In a best case scenario, the manufacturers usually claim a 30 to 40 degree reduction from ambient temperature. People who purchase and review the units seem to never reach that level.
But even if that reduction were possible, start with an 80 degree day, add 15-20 degrees from being in the closed trunk baking in the sun, and you are not gonna make ice! Mostly these units are designed for inside the car use while traveling, where the ambient temp is already comfortable.
(Since "cool box" is an European term, I should mention that all temps in this message are Fahrenheit, not Celsius)
