Exclamation Front Brakes on SC430 - Correct Part Number?

Hello,

I was told I need to replace the front brakes on my 2002 SC430. I called my local Lexus dealer and they want $80 for the brake pads. I am now looking on Sewell Lexus's site (as a ClubLexus member) to understand exactly which part number(s) I need bit I am confused. Can someone please tell me which part number the front brake pads are? I am getting the work done at a non-Lexus mechaninc.

I think I need this item: http://lexus.sewellparts.com/accesso...2002/2505.html

But it also says on the site that the "Shim Kit and Fit Kit" are recommended to be replaced as well, but I guess that does not come with the above front brake kit?

Also, is there a brake "sensor" on the SC430 which I also need to replace (the type that would indicate the brakes are low by lighting up a dashboard light)?

Any insight is much appreciated! Thank you

There's also the clips Clips and Fittings or the Shim kit Read the description sentences.."The Lexus fitting kit is the brake hardware used to provide proper fitment with individual brake pads to the caliper and bracket. Brake fit kits are usually replaced at the time of brake pad replacement but are considered to be optional based on wear and inspection. The fit kit is a key component to the braking system."
Means your mechanic needs to know what he's looking at, how the parts have worn during use and having the option to replace if necessary... Considering some of these components are necessary for the proper operation of your front brakes while others are designed for more esoteric reasons, (noise reduction) the $130 in parts, (pads, shims and clips) might save your life, or at a minimum reduce braking noise that may drive you crazy trying to track down some new and unusual sounds coming from the car.....but it's up to you.

You may also want to consider getting EBC Green Stuff pads.

There seems to be a wide consensus that they produce much less brake dust whilst still giving better performance, don't suffer when cold, and being cheaper than EBC's Red Stuff, Hawk HPS and other options.

Silly question! Do the Shim's wear Bob? I can understand getting the "Fitting Kit" but I've not thought about replacing the Shims.

Do you mean oxidize or corrode due to environmental conditions. Yes, they do albeit slowly.

Thanks to everyone who responded on this topic (and sorry for my late follow-up).

Following Bob's always excellent advice, I have decided to order from Sewell the following:

Part #: 0446522312 (In Stock)
$47.62

Brakes: Front Fitting Kit-Lexus Front Brake Fit Kit
Part #: 0494730120 (In Stock)
$29.44

Brakes: Front Shim Kit-Lexus Front Brake Shim Kit
Part #: 0494530140 (In Stock)
$51.52

The total came to just under $130 without shipping with the Clublexus discount.

Update: my independent mechanic charged $80 to install all the above items. My total came out to around $220 with the parts I got from sewell. The local Lexus dealer wanted around $380ish.
