Dealer nicked up my interior during service?
I could use the forum's help with something...
I just retrieved my 2002 SC430 from my local dealer after he installed and 'calibrated' a LH (drivers) side roof motor after diagnosing in a previous visit that that same motor had a dead spot and was the cause of our roof intermittently malfunctioning.
All is well with the roof now but as I am driving the car home (with the roof up...40 degrees here!) I go to make a right lane change and looking over my shoulder I notice damage
I am planning on taking the car back tomorrow and inquiring but thought I would first post this up to the forum to insure that maybe...somehow...Lexus designed the car this way and I just missed seeing it before. The funny thing is it was the left hand motor that went bad and this damage is on the right side...?
Mind taking a look in your SC's and reporting back? BIG THANKS in advance!!

My suggestion is not complaining loudly, but rather being respectful and giving them a chance to work out the problem reasonably. Plus, that way if they won't be reasonable, you have somewhere to go (more volume )
Seriously, it looks to me like it just wasn't seated properly. There are lots of places in the car where piece A needs to be inserted before piece B for everything to fit just right. My guess is that they take it apart, reassemble, and the notch part ends up being hidden below the black piece.

Agree - looks like they did a sloppy job of not buttoning it up correctly - or forgot to check it. Take it back in and I'd be very surprised if they don't fix it and apologize to you for the inconvenience - this is the kind of thing where you can ask for some small comped service like free next oil change when they do apologize - something reasonable but token for your time and trouble.

Dealer saw it today and confirmed that both the leather trim is damaged and the plastic support piece it attaches to is broken underneath. The service manager will have the final say as to whether they are paying for the fix or I am. They claim I have no way of proving the damage wan't done prior to my taking the vehicle to them. Time will tell if I am a happy camper or...

Thanks for looking. In your car is the scuffing visible w/o pulling/moving anything away first? I mean, can you see it in your day to day driving by just looking back in that area? My dealer did readjust the leather cover so the notch seen in my first post is no longer visible but it still looks crummy IMHO.

Mine has the exact cruddy looking scuff, but does not bother me. Would have not even realize it until tghis post. You are fine. Just hate the $$ you dropped on it, ouch.

Just to follow up...I got a call today from the service manager. They are going to get me both rear pillars and install on their dime! Lexus came through in the end even if they made me squirm a week or so waiting for an answer.

That's great news Idaho430. I'm glad they worked it out for you and you'll get it fixed, along with your roof.
