If you want to jump right to it then fast forward to the 1 hour mark. That said, I've owned a British Morris Minor convertible and that's enough said about that!

Now I'm a Brit here in the UK and really rate Top Gear.
I do know they have slammed the SC some years ago not long after it came out - so its not got a good track record.
And to be fair, if I'd paid £50k+ for a new one - I'd be a little ticked off.
But mine (purchased last year) is now 10 years old, and I got it off ebay and its by far the BEST car I've ever had regardless of price etc....
It does have some suspension issues - but it still feels like a really expensive vehicle and we had the best euro trip ever this summer driving from the UK to the very south of spain (and back)- all in supreme comfort.
Crazy guys at Top Gear - but what can I say - totally wrong in every (almost every) way.
I think I'm gonna make a video reply !!!

The impression that I have is that coil overs make for a more controlled ride but result in a harsher one. I'm not a canyon carver but rather my SC is my city car. Are there coil overs that make for a more supple (but controlled) ride on irregular pavement and pot holes?

Go for the Tein Comfort Sport coil over, I just install mine one month ago. I got a 2" drop, & its still very comfy. The CS coilover give you a huge performance gain while it still have 90% of the OEM comfort.

Yup, I get the adjustable ride height and the performance gain attributes. But it seems that I have to give up 10% ride comfort. So I guess that the ride comfort is at maximum as delivered by Lexus and the only thing left to gain is ride height, cornering control, braking power, horse power, and styling tweaks. I'm okay with that as I like my SC a lot and I'll continue to enjoy watching Top Gear. Maybe if I had paid $70K I'd be demanding more of the car, but I paid $20K for my '06 and I'm not letting it go.

Top Gear show itself is quite opinionated. That's how they are and I enjoy them as much as the next guy.
The take on the SC, I do not agree. Simple as that. I have seen their 1st review way back when. It took me a while but chanced on it most recently on BBC. It was done late 2003, early 2004. It was on the 1st season of Top Gear. In fact that's how they started, they just let it rip, they are very polarized on their review. They love it or hate it. The SC landed on the hate end.
They love the Nissan GTR as they should never bashed Nissan, you know they are not Toyota lovers.
