SC430 speaker replacement
Any suggestions for replacement (front door) speakers on a 2003 SC430 with factory Mark Levinson system? It sounds like blown door speakers are a common thing on SC430 models.

I recommend you consider having the speakers repaired rather than replaced with a non-ML speaker. I went that route after quite a lot of research on this forum and elsewhere. They sound wonderful and it's a very inexpensive alternative.
Good luck. Tell us what you choose to do!

Buy the re-foam kit from SimplySpeakers for $20 (which will do the door 6X9's), and then find the DIY thread on this forum. In fact, I have the re-foam kit sitting on a shelf waiting for the foam on mine to deteriorate (with the help of my kids, who like to drive the speakers a little more than me).

^^ I almost did the re-foam thing but found out that the ML speakers were intact but busted. So I went the 6.5" conversion from Crutchfield. I have pics that I have not posted. Will do some time post it. It will be in an existing thread about speaker replacement.

I replaced both my door speakers with 9x6 Pioneer speakers from Best Buy. Only the rt. door speaker was buzzing but I couldn't see what was wrong - it would buzz when tapped. The new speakers sound better than the ML speakers ever did.

Kelly,
Mine was intact but was cracking on certain frequencies. Driver side. The Pass side was ok. I have the other speaker so when the pass side quits, I will replace.
Sounding good now.

So, I pulling up this old thead, because I still dont' know what to use. DC golds some people love others hate.
I am looking at going with 6.5" units. I like the idea of the newer IS ML speakers. Anyone try this with luck?

The one speaker I had to replace was not a torn foam issue, it was just not working right. So I had to go to plan B. Conversion of a 6x9 " to a 6.5" It required modification of the supplied plate, which was not a big deal. The issue with my install was the door panel would not budge. So I had to go underneath making it 3x difficult for the install.
