Question 2004 Lexus SC 330

Sup i read in a maginzine that Lexus will soon bring out a new SC model to the Lexus lineup. It is the 2004 Lexus SC 300. They said that it will be powered by an I-6 240 engine. Im just wondering if all this will be true and what is the pricing listing that it will be proced at. Also will it still be a Hardtop Converitable.

I thought they were dropping the 3 liter inline six, and using a "sport tuned" version of the 3.3 V6 in the IS/GS/possible SC hardtop?

I heard you'll be able to disable/turn off the runflat sensors.

I spoke with a lexus salesman who confirmed a SC330 but also said it will be hardtop only, no convertable, otherwise they might loose too many sales of the SC430 due to decreased price. This way you get a convertible and V-8 for the extra cash!

That will be a smart move for Lexus. A SC330 that does not have the extra weight of the hard top convertible mechanisim. Wouldn't it be nice If they would just get a car with about 250 to 280 hp 6 cylinder engine to compete with the Infiniti G35 Coupe.

Time will tell.

I hope they dont come out with any other SC's. Im sorry, but Lexus doesnt need to compete with the G35. Im sure some of you wish they had a competing vehicle, but Lexus has always done their own thing. Besides I think they are more interested in BMW and Mercedes as far as competition. Thats why the G35 is so cheap 30-35k they need to be. Infiniti and Acura need to price theirs in the low 30's while Lexus can get away with selling a rebadged Camry for 40 grand.

If I could get the same interior appointments and sound system in a lighter, 6-cylinder coupe with much better handling and a nice sunroof, I would definitely consider trading my SC430.

However, I would never consider a G35 coupe because they are a little too "rough around the edges". As beautiful as the exterior design is, the quality absolutely can't be compared to an SC, first or second generation.

I'll be interested in seeing what Lexus does with the SC330.

I have to agree, the Infiniti from the exterior looks great. The acceleration and handling are very good! The interior is VERY CHEAP. All the plastic is thin and .... cheap! I test drove and just couldn't get past the interior. Nothing like the SC430. Even in the same price range, I prefered the interior to my Honda S2000 over the G35. The car mags even said they question the durability of the interior materials. It felt like a Nissan. My Lexus doesn't feel like a Toyota.

I read somewhere too, that that engine is stressed to the limit. they keep making it bigger and bigger, with more horsepower. The mags say that around redline it feels as if it is going to shake all the bolts lose on the car. Keep in mind this is the same engine nissan has used for years and years. I wonder about its reliability. My friends altima had to have the engine replaced the first two weeks he had the car.

As for quality, they need to keep the price low. As far as comparing the SC to it. We have an IS as well which is a $36k car, I am amazed at the differences in the engine and transmission, the SC is about the smoothest thing in the world. So dont blame it all on Infiniti.

Default SC330

I'm anxiously awaiting the SC330. I love the SC430 and can easily afford it but I really just can't justify paying $62K+ for a car (especially since I always buy my cars and pay cash). I'm hoping for a 2004 SC330 to appear soon with a 6 cylinder engine and hardtop for around $40K. Insurance costs should be significantly less vs. convertible as well. Fuel costs better too with 6 vs. 8 cylinder. However - I did see a 2002 SC430 for $46,999 on lexus.com which was tempting. Now if only the S&P 500 would just come back to 1,500+.............
