I just called my Lexus dealer and they have the new updated version in stock. They want $525 for it. Are they f***in' nuts ??
The parts guy said the only detailed additions were parts of Canada. Is this true ?
I love calling dealers, most of them never know what the hell is going on.

There were changes
The way I looked at it, there are 3 things to look for. How many roads, etc changed (I have no idea), how many POI changed (I have no idea) and did the interface change?
I am not sure how many changes were made to the first two in NY/Cal or anywhere else for that matter, although the internal Lexus documents implied that there were.
The interface is changed - its mostly cosmetic and certainly not critical. Things like highway signs etc now appear as the proper shape and color (Interstates, etc.) and things like that.
I like the new one better. Is it worth $500? No way. Worth $250? Maybe. I got a "good deal" so it was worth it to me.

Passed on DVD
I spoke to my dealer on Friday about the NAV update.
Apparently there are NO changes for Dallas at all.
Considering that there is a relatively new (3+ years) highway
that has been missing from the 2000 DVD, I'm a little disappointed.
So I guess I will wait until the next one comes out before I pay $250 for cosmetic changes.
Don't forget -- if you install the new DVD just to "try it out,"
you will be unable to run the old DVD again.
And EdP, I've driven past that sign.
There's one in McAlister, OK on US 69/75.

Standard
The NAV system was an "option" when the car first went on sale in April of '01. Some of the early cars did not have it, although most did. You can spot the cars without it because they have a solid wood trim piece not broken for the NAV screen door, and they have a small digital compass readout at the bottom of the speedometer.
Within about the first 6 months, the NAV system was made standard and all cars had them from then on, up to now.
Therefore, the percentage of SCs without it gets smaller everyday.
