This seems pretty straightforward. The up/down gears in your passenger mirror are toast. If you do a search, you will find that this is an extremely common problem with this car. A Lexus tech once told me that the mirror gears are complete crap. It is for that reason that I never use the "tilt down in reverse" feature. I want to save as much wear as possible.

Because your passenger's side gear is stripped, that's why only the drivers side is moving down when the car is in reverse.

The center position is OFF for the tilt down feature. That's why the driver's side is not moving.

That solves #1 and #3 -- never heard of the mirrors "dimming" so can't help with #2

The dimming is controlled from the rearview mirror in the cabin. There is a button there that controls the dimming feature (for when someone behind you is using highbeams). This button also controls dimming on the side mirrors for the same reason. They are all linked. Not sure why only 1 is working properly though.

Well you learn something everyday, I was not aware the side mirrors 'dimmed' as well as the interior mirror.
Thanks Shawn.

Best regards

IIRC, there was a thread a couple of years ago about the same gear problem. The poster bought used mirrors and just replaced the innards.

With regards to your RPM, that does look low but maybe the tach needs to be calibrated.

The question now with the idle speed is...is the tach accurate and the car is idling slow, or is the tach out of calibration?

Mine idles too low, exactly like that too, and it's not a tachograph issue either gents. I'll be cleaning the idle and intake system soon with carb cleaner or something appropriate to see will this fix this, once I find out if the intake systems IE MAF, MAP sensors will tolerate a cleaning of this nature.

Interesting. It is hard to imagine a car idling at 400 rpm smoothly. Then again, if it runs fine, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I suspect that the tach is receiving the same information as is being sent to your OBDII, so the fact that they match may not mean much. You may have to use an external reference/meter to obtain a true reading.

It's not that smooth. I can feel that it's about 200-250rpm too low. I would prefer it at 750rpm as a minimum, V8 or not. The engine is somewhat hesitant to react when it's this low.

I'm also attaching a pic i took a bit ago of my idle RPM. Maybe I should post this on a new thread I dont know. But it seems to me that its too low. I'm new to this car, i just bought it. But Ive had a GS300 and a GS430 and none of them was this low.
...hey Alex before you buy the new mirrors, you might try the switch.Occasionally my mirrors seem to stick, but after going back/forth with the switch they will finally move. Sometimes it's the right one, sometimes the left one. Also on the mirrow that doesn't move up/down, you might try pressing the glass(right in the middle),with some pressure;but don't break it...lol...the glass snaps into 4 prongs, that move it in all directions
