Did you blow an engine ?

Just got my car back today after getting a heart transplant, 2002 SC. The failure was the radiator...unfortunately it blew out on the way home from work on day and I wasn't getting a temperature reading nor was seeing any steam to even cause me to look at the temps. Got off the interstate and it just seized up.
I've heard/seen too many stories like this over the years. In 1974, I seized the engine in my girlfriend's 72 AMC Javelin on I-5, by Los Banos, in 100 degree weather. Same deal, I didn't see any steam and only knew to look at the gauge once the engine started losing power. Luckily, after a tow and having my wallet emptied at a gas station, I was able to limp home and replace both head gaskets before getting back on the road.

It is scary but extremely uncommon. I would suggest replacing the radiator by 130k miles or after 14 years as preventative maintenance. Small price to pay for peace of mind.
Order the OEM Denso radiator off RockAuto and the upper and lower hoses. Much cheaper than the dealer and it's the same parts. Thermostat too. Then pay for labor only or do it yourself. 👍
