Please call Lexus Corporate. They must hear about this. MUST. That is our responsibility to our co-owners.

Brought my 2002 in yesterday. It was an interesting, probably unique, experience.
When I dropped the car off I mentioned to them that everything was working fine and if they felt the replacement would impact other parts of the car could they make sure those parts were working beforehand. Jeff, the service technician, said they would but everything should be fine. The work is behind the clove compartment and there really is much else back there. He said he would call after they verify if the replacement was necessary.
Great! See ya this evening.
Jeff called about an hour later. They did not need to do the replacement as the serial number for the air bag was not in the "baddie" range. Didn't expect that for the 2002's but fine with me. On the other hand in the process if checking they noticed some parts that did not normally come with the car. Seems there was a very nicely built mouse residence inside the climate control system. Actually I had to laugh. I was cleaning the carpets the day before and thought I got a whiff of mouse smell. It was faint and I figured it was just the floor mat. Ha Ha on me. A mouse with good taste. Like they say when looking for a new home, it's all about location, location, location.
Jeff asked if I would like them clean it all out and completely disinfect the car. Felt a little bad for the mouse family but Yes Please. I'll pick up Bubblez this evening on the way home.
Net, net: dealer experience was very good, timely and courteous service. As not all cars need the replacement it is worth having it checked out, it's free, but validate everything is good in the car first and ask them to do the same before they do whatever it is they need to do.

I'm planning on bringing my 2002 in early summer. Just curious if you knew your build date?
Like everyone else I'm a little nervous, particularly since I have an aftermarket head unit and XM unit crammed in, and everything is working great. I also know how easy it is to crack the vent grill units taking them out. I suppose that they'll replace what they bust.

Things can always go wrong, but I took my '02 in a few months ago. The Manager said that they had done quite a few at that time and did not foresee any problems. (I had photographed everything beforehand.) I got the car back in a day or two, and cannot tell that the dash had ever been taken apart.
My "takeaway" from all of this: don't generalize from insufficient data (we learned that in high school anyway, didn't we).

I am like tfischer I took a ton of pictures, detailed pics. Good thing they did not need to do anything, but kept the car from Friday to Tuesday. I had a 2014 IS loaner. Nice.

Airbag Recall
I had mine taken care of this week after I found out the KC dealer does not remove dash to perform the work. They found out if they remove the passenger seat and lay on their back they can remove the glove box and remove and replace the airbag.

DOH! Now they figure this out?

Took my 2003 SC in today for the recall and an oil change. Did not need the replacement . FYI--Mine must be among the earliest 03s made, with a build date of 09/02.
And a thank you to mandyfig--Jeff Jackson and Galleria/Nalley Lexus were everything you predicted!
