Airbags are designed to be replaced, and dashboards are designed to be removed in order to access the parts behind. Faces are not designed to absorb flying debris.
Surely they know how to do this; I would think that the wait is for the necessary parts to be assembled and distributed to dealers so that they can be done in short order.

anybody has this done yet? How long did it take?

I just received the second recall letter today and the letter said it will take 5 hours to do it. Please post your experience with this recall. I hate to take my car back to the stealer for service.

5 hrs? Sounds like it's not so easy to just access these air bags..

Just got my letter early this week. Yes, they have to go deep to get at that airbag actuator.

On mine I've routed wiring for XM radio antenna, and microphone for Bluetooth on my new radio head unit behind the dash. I'm assuming that they can deal with it.

I haven't received my second letter yet.

I will not rush into the dealer, as disassembling the dash in a major way is not done all that often, and many parts can be easily broken by those newbie techs every dealer seems to hire. I'll let them practice on someone else's car first.

I will also carefully clean and go over every square inch of the dash to note any existing damage, and will probably photograph the major wood panels with a current newspaper in some of the shots.

My BMW went in for an iDrive screen replacement and one of the wooden panels came back cracked. I can't swear it happened then, and without proof it was useless to talk.

Not sure it matters much anyway though, as matching the laquered wood closely on a 5 to 10 year old car is not an easy feat.
