Funsize is headed to the hospital

I'm not sure how insurance works in Texas but here's my story.
My daughter's car was hit one week before she going off to college. We bought the car used just 3 months before the accident. We had State Farm other driver had Allstate.
My State Farm agent suggested we don't report to him but call Allstate being that the other driver was cited by police. Allstate accepted responsibility once they saw the accident report.
Their adjuster visited the body shop where it was towed. The body shop owner saw a buckle in the roof and suggested it was totaled. Allstate adjuster agreed. 2 days later we had an generous offer from Allstate and day 5 we had a check.
There was no record of a claim at State Farm. No deductible to deal with.

I'm not so sure the damage estimate would qualify it as totaled unless there is frame damage.
The rule of thumb is that the repair estimate must exceed 70% of the value of the car for it to be totaled.

Chris,
Unless it's totaled don't accept a check from the other insurance company. Bring it to the body shop of your choice and let the insurance company arrange to deal with them directly. Initial evaluations will likely change as more damage is uncovered while doing the repair. The body shop then will deal with the insurance and file what they call a "supplemental" to the claim.
That's the way the game is played and one of the reasons that they use 70% rule of thumb to total.
You may also be eligible for what is called diminished value loss since now that its been hit the resale value is diminished. That one you will have to work at to pull off. http://www.diminishedvalue.com/
We have the same color combo, Silver with Camel leather on my wife's SC430.
