iPhone and SC telephone Bluetooth issues
What Is describe below I what i have experienced with our previous 2005 Prius with Navigation and Both our 2007 and 2008 SC430s.
Until last week, our iPhone provider has been AT&T. Anytime we dialed a number on the iPhone the car audio would not come alive until about 1-2 seconds AFTER the call was answered. That meant we could not hear it ring or even the first hello from the answering party through the car speakers. This happened with iPhone 4, 4S and 5's using AT&T as a carrier.
Well due to the need to change cell carrier because AT&T did not have coverage where our daughter is moving, we traded in our AT&T iPhones and got Verizon iPhones last week.
I was surprised that now with the Verizon iPhone 5's immediately after initiating a call with the iPhone, we hear the phone ring and answer without delay through our car speakers.
Just thought I'd post this for others to be aware.

I have the iPhone 4s with AT&T and what I have found is that if the phone number is dialed from phone itself, it’s exactly as you describe, you don’t hear it ring and then the display says “conversation” after the other party answers. However, if you dial from the display panel, which is not all that convenient, then you will hear the phone ring and hear the other party answer the call. I too am very surprised at what you have learned or experienced by changing carriers.

Not only is it inconvenient to dial via the Nav screen it is not possible if you are moving.
Most times when I'm driving my wife will dial a number in the iPhone. Now Bluetooth telephone interface when dialing from the iPhone works perfectly with our Verizon iPhones. It was a pleasant surprise.
