Default Wholesale Auction Pricing for SC430 (Nov 2013)

Since I have received so much information from this community, I figure now is a good time to return the favor...

Here you will see the wholesale auction pricing from the dealer-only auction (in this case, it's known as the "Manheim MRR 60 Day" report), showing all Manheim wholesale auction sales of the 2002 SC430 nationwide in October and November 2013. The price you see is the price the 2002 model year SC430 sold for (to a dealer), along with the mileage, color, and condition.

Please note that these are NOT the prices you can realistically buy a 2002 SC430 for, these prices reflect what the DEALERS pay for them. Dealers typically add an additional 25%-40% when they sell the cars retail (to regular consumers, like you and I) in order to make profit and cover their operating expenses. The PDF document with the prices can be found below the video (at the bottom of this post).

A video overview of the auction is here:

I hope this information is useful to the community.

Very interesting! I live within 40 miles of this and had no idea it was this big. I knew it was big but WOW! Interesting info on the 02's. Thanks!

Be wary when looking at auction prices, it's not the total picture. There are several costs to dealers not included in the raw prices listed.

Manheim charges dealers fees. Annual registration fees and also fees to buy and sell each vehicle.

Buyers pay 4.5% not to exceed $450 to Manheim for each car they buy.

Dealers then incur transportation costs, salary for employees who attend the auction, prep costs to make the vehicle look good on their lot and any repairs needed.

Thank you for posting the info. With the objective of possibly selling and moving up a few years I was recently able to see the September Price Driver dealer information that applies to my '02 SC430, which most would describe as Millennium Silver / Saddle, 45K miles, above average condition. Casual observers mistake it for near new. With the odometer adjustment applied the Manheim national value was said to be $20,000 ($16,600 was average), based on ~20 unit sales; Black Book showed $16,875 for Clean; and NADA showed $17,275 for Clean Trade and $19,675 for Clean Retail.

While these are clearly just additional data points it was interesting for me to see the variance. I think that the Manheim data in the OP's PDF is completely realistic since it shows individual wholesale results. The very low-mileage units probably do command higher prices from someone who's willing to pay. I feel fairly certain that I'd struggle to get $18K from mine in a private sale but if nothing materializes I can feel good about enjoying it a little longer.

For an 11+ year old car, it's priced fair enough.

Most SoCal dealers and private sellers selling 2002 SC's with approx 120k miles go for about $12k-$15k...

Keep in mind, not all that applies. For 'locals' sure, but for others like the shop I get cars/service from, they simply bid online, live. No one has to leave the comfort of their desk a few hours away here in Canada to buy a car...

Also, I'm surprised to see the '02s going for that much... Better off getting a light fender bender/theft recovery 05-06 PB edition for slightly more money than the highest priced 02 there... IMO
