Suspension - which coilovers to go for?
#16
I'm using Zeal coilovers by Endless. I was hoping for a firmer ride than stock, but mostly for much better handling.
They make 2 models for our car. I chose the less stiffer ones since I heard that Zeal's are much stiffer in general than other brands. Mine has 6 settings for stiffness. What surprised me was that even at the stiffest setting, they are softer than stock. When i drive over roads with dips, it returns with a "pogo stick" like feeling. This is the only thing I don't like about them.
I do think they handle much better than stock. Which is weird because I would think stiffer shocks = better handling and vice versa. But the same time I swapped out the coil overs I also swapped out for 20's and much lower profile tires so that also improved the handling. So I don't know how much each as individual swap made in the handling.

I'm surprise no one mention Tein CS Comfort Sport coilover. Its let you drop the car and maintain very good comfort.
I got them on my SC and I live in NYC with crappy road
Check this post for a used set to see if it still available.

Also to mention the ones from Megans - stree and LP - both have recieved good comments here. I am putting on Megan LP's this week. I'm moving away from the Tanabe NSF lowering springs with OEM shocks - the lowering springs need a change in shock eg Bilsteins otherwise the ride is rough.

Do you still have run flats? I know not many people still have them but I thought I'd ask because what you describe sounds familiar.
My SC rode smooth except that any little bump or crack in the road caused my teeth to jar. I ditched the run flats and it made a world of difference.

Thank you!
Hi Mo
The car is a different animal with the coilovers, firm but comfortable with no 'floating boat' feeling and very little roll when cornering.
Dampers work in both directions, up and down. Sports dampers help to keep the car level when cornering hard by stopping the outside lifting and the inside dropping. Hope I have explained that okay!
I went over to air because I like to run the car fairly low, but I am able to lift it instantly with the touch of a button on the Accuair touchpad to get over speed bumps etc.
I have not heard of another SC with Accuair in the UK.
Cheers
Steve

Now I'm just debating on what brand to get now for the coilovers , not sure if one is better over another

Hello Everyone,
so this is what I found for the sc... I know there are more like brands but these are what I'm choosing between I guess.. not sure what's better over another.. I know I have listed Tein in there but I don't think I'm paying 2000$... I'm looking for something around 1300 max or less but I don't mind comparison with Tein.. Now I want to know what has best quality and a nice comfy/sport ride... I noticed on some thread someone saying that BC is better then Tein for half the price is that true? and which would be most comfy and smooth..what would you go with? positives/negatives would be great!! hopefully this thread will be very useful for anyone looking for coil overs in future as I'm sure we there will be good info for starters
Megan LP - 1000$

Ksport CLX060-Kontrol Pro - $1050

BC Racing BR - 1150$
http://www.bcracing-na.com/products/br-type/
D2 Racing RS - 1250$
http://www.d2racing.com/coilovers/rs-series/
Meister R - probably $1200?

XYZ (SS-DLE-016) 1100$

Tein CS probably around 1800 to 2000$

I have a 2002 SC430 that i put a bike rack on the back. it is pretty stable but when i put 2 bikes and stuff in the trunk, i'm pretty low. any suggestions on a cost sensitive solution to make the back end a little stiffer to hold the extra weight without being too light/high/squirrely under normal operation? thanks.

Hi Anion
I am on air with Megans. The dampers have to be adapted. The bag has to be at the bottom of the rear damper because it will not fit within the arch at the top. I have sports bags, but you say you are using universal, maybe they are smaller in diameter.
The higher you go with the bag the stiffer the suspension gets and the lower you go the softer it gets, but then the bag can bottom out and the ride can be bone jarring.
Do a lot of research before you pull the trigger because in my opinion you may not be able to get the OEM ride quality you want.
Mine is certainly nowhere near OEM, but I am happy with that.
Zack @UAS will be able to answer your questions, but make it clear you want a soft ride.
cheers
