Default Key for 430

I have only one key for my 03 sc 430.

What should I do? I am afraid something will go wrong.

Thanks

Another less expensive way is to purchase a transponder key, get it cut and program it yourself. You can do this with either a Valet style key or the full Remote Keyless Entry style keys. Prices run from $10 for a plain aftermarket transponder key to $175 for a new complete RKE style key. Some places will also cut the key prior to shipment using a good photo of your current working key.

The instructions for programming the transponder key and the remote keyless entry can be found many places and aren't too difficult to execute but timing is critical and the process takes patience.

I have done this with keys found on EBay. I bought a used OEM key, removed the internals and transferred them to a new, pre-cut, aftermarket key blade / shell assy and programmed them to the SC430 myself.

Having only one key is risky because if you loose it or it fails to communicate it gets VERY expensive.

You need at least one working and already programmed "master" key to program an additional key. If you don't have a master key available the Electronic Control Unit "ECU" may need to be replaced.

Sewell Lexus http://lexus.sewellparts.com will sell you keys precut to your car. You must complete a form and send proof of ownership which can just be the registration or bill of sale showing the vin number and your name and address. To qualify for club Lexus discount register on the Sewell Lexus Parts site using your club Lexus ID, log off the log back on and you will see discounted prices.

The least expensive master key from them runs $63. It does not have the remote function but you can open the door by inserting the key in the door lock and once programmed it will start the car. The one with remote function runs $207 with the club Lexus discount. See below.

The site here has instructions on how to program a key yourself. Some have been able to do this successfully but others like myself were unsuccessful. I took the precut keys I purchased from Sewell and had my local Lexus dealer program them. They charged me $60 or 1/2 hour labor to program 3 additional keys.

I think you posted in another thread that you don't have a Lexus dealer locally. Any Toyota dealer has the knowledge and necessary computer and software to program your Lexus.

I have one master key and a valet key. If I lose the master key, can dealer program a new key from the valet key?

I had the same situation when I purchased my sc. I found a used master key on EBay, then purchased a blank shell from EBay, found the instructions on how to program the key here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...ogramming.html
then had it cut by a local locksmith. The entire cost was less than $100.00.
