Wonky Antenna
New owner of a 2007 and 1st post. My antenna goes all the way up and then one of the sections retreats. Any ideas what I need to do to correct this?

Can depend on how your radio is setup, if set to RDS, it can extend or contract the antenna when changing channels. Dont remember of hand why. Check your manual for details on the radio settings.

Congratulations on your 07 SC430 and welcome to the Forum. I don't believe there is anything wrong with your antenna. This is par for the course and how it was engineered. The antenna mast only extends to the height needed to attain the proper frequency desired for that particular FM or AM channel. You can look in the manual, but I believe this topic has been discussed. Enjoy your Lexus SC430!

Congrats and welcome. I've done quite a bit of work with the antenna and your description sounds like normal operation for the SC430. It will autoadjust in order to give the best reception. There are many relevant threads on this forum, as explained by Lexeffect. There's also a way to keep the antenna in the down position if you so choose. I believe it;s done by holding the FM + RDS button at the same time. but please read the threads to confirm. (try the 'interesting things you've learned about the sc430' thread). Been a while since i messed with the antenna.

Different radio stations use different frequencies to broadcast on. Without going into the physics of such, each frequency has a different wave length. Tuning the length of the antenna to the best match of that wave length provides the strongest signal and that is what the Lexus radio/antenna system does.
All that to say, the radio adjusts the length of the antenna to best work with each frequency (or group of frequencies, as in this case).
