Default How to test subwoofer with stereo itself?

I haven't heard much "deep bass" lately....anyone know
how to tell if their sub woofer is working without
pulling out the rear seat ? Can you just turn up
the bass and play a cd with a lot of low end sound
to try to hear the sub ? Maybe adjust the fader
control ? Are our subs pretty loud, or just a "fill-in"
level for the music we're playing ?

I just played some CDs with some heavy bass. The subwoofer sounded really muddy, rather awful IMO. After the speaker was replaced, it sounded great.

Do any trim panels ( other than the rear seat bottom ) have to
come out to get to the sub-woofer ?

If you do a search for speaker replacement, you will get a lot of hits. I myself just repaired the subwoofer. Awesome results.

...if it's working, you'll probably hear it whether it sounds good or not. I would put a cd in with good bass. You could then adjust the treble & mids down, then turn the bass up. The factory woofer (if working properly) sounds good, but won't shake the house. If you want some deep bass, you'll probably have to add an amp & another sub. Many of the members here have done this, including myself. To answer your other question, the only way to get to the sub, is to remove the rear seat...hope this helps some

I was always wondering the same thing. The sound system sounded pretty good after I replaced the door 6x9's with apioneers but ai never really heard the sub woofer. Now I am installing the NavTool and have the trunk liners all out I wanted to remove the rear seat too for better access to cable routing. So good time to double check the woofer. I toulk it out and inspected it - nothing lose and all good good. Tyen ai played with the setting, Bass +5 evrythng down and FAD at R7 - yep it working. I could hear it even with normal setting with the seat out. It has a small magnet and isn't very strong at all but in a song with heavy base you can clearly hear the boom boom especially wit a higher base level. I don't plan to upgrade but ai am going to install sound deading under rear seat and back.

Won't the sound deadening be counter productive to the subwoofer output?

No al contrario - I'll do the floor under the rear seat and wall behind the seat but of course not over the sunwoofer. So external sound sources (mainly from road and my exhaust system) should be lessoned leaving more the speaker output. To bad Lexus buried the subwoffer behind the sewt vs. having an exposed grill.

I have already done that to my car, the improvement is really minimum. It's probably more psychological then factual because I actually laid the Dynamat myself. I even laid them in the trunk as well.
