Default Loose Rear View Mirror

Loose Rear View Mirror

I will post the TSIB for those who need to do this. I have not done this myself but would like to. It involves replacing the spring that holds the rear view mirror. This TSIB was applicable from 2002 to 2004. 2005 they changed the spring.

The part is worth $7 from what I heard.

TSIB: NV003-04

NV means Noise Vibration, part of NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness)

I had this happened to me couple of years back, I then took the mirror off and just bend the steel plate, reinstalled and all good. Your case may vary but worth a shot.

Here's the TSIB finally!

What I will do is try to bend the spring to get more traction 1st before I buy a new one as suggested.

I finally tore down my rear view mirror and saw what has happened. The spring has given way allowing it to vibrate. It appeared shaved and looked short. I bent it and replaced it. I have not tested it to see if it made a difference. However I ordered the new spring (I got 2) they are $1.50 each. I ordered parts from an OEM Lexus supplier. This is the 1st order I placed other than the Sewell website. I placed it on parts.com. So far the order process was easy. It did not have the schematic but showed me the part numbers and there is an input requested for the VIN so they can verify if it applies to your car.

Let’s see what happens. I bet you it is a new spring they designed. It applies to pretty much all Lexus cars according to the shipping information.

I will let you know how it turns out. The actual replacement is pretty straight forward. I will post pics.

If I get rid of the vibration of the rear view mirror, will be a happy camper.

Sweet, 1.50 for a spring is more than reasonable.

parts.com sucks!!!! Stay away, save your time.

I went to mylparts.com, much better service! Let's see if they deliver.

I have replaced my spring on the rear view mirror and couple that with a new bracket that came with the new windshield glass, the rear view mirror is solid as a rock, feels brand new. That spring was very tight in there but soon as it latched, it felt very firm. Unlike before the mirror would shake with just with a slight tug on it. Problem solved.

BTW the new spring is the current spring used for all the Lexus line – RX, GS, ES, Is and the latter years of the SC. I know because the packaging said so.

Mandyfig,

Thanks for posting this. After I got my SC back from being detailed at the dealer the rear view mirror was giggling when I hit a bump. I did a forum search for "view" and came upon this thread.

Looking at the TSB I originally thought that I would need to replace the spring but all that was needed was to rotate the mirror base slightly to get it to lock it in and eliminate the play. Now it's rock solid again.
