I had the same problem it was MAF sensor. I was sick on my stomach trying to find the problem.

Running lean and stumbling sounds like it could be a vacuum issue. You might want to check your hoses first.

As for my issue, yep, throttle position sensor. It's located on the driver side of the throttle body/air intake under the decorative engine cowling. You'll have to remove some vacuum hoses to get to it and I would recommend a very short Phillips screwdriver for removing the two mounting screws. If you choose to install a new one, put the sensor on with the electrical contacts facing upward at about a 20-30 degree angle and then rotate counterclockwise until it's back in position (contacts should be about horizontal or pointing down slightly). The non-technical way to adjust it is to turn on the engine (don't touch the accelerator pedal) rotate the sensor until warm idle is about 600-700rpm, then fully tighten down the mounting screws. Make sure to put all of the vacuum hoses back on!!

Just hit 42k miles. I just had my oil changed and while in the shop I had my mechanic do a Seaform flush through the PCV valve. While we were letting the Seaform soak in, we also cleaned the MAF and the Throttle body plate and intake. On start up and initial test drive, the car was puffing huge amount of white smoke and the acceleration was gone (no combustion). No CELs. But within about 15 minutes, the car returned to normal, white smoke stopped, and I could feel the car picking up power. Also saw my MPG's increase about 3 MPG's over what it was previously (city driving). All in all with the oil change, Seafoam treatment, throttle body cleaning, and a windshield wiper hose repair, ran me $100.

If you run 1/3 can of Seafoam through the PCV valve it will really sharpen acceleration. Just be prepared for a giant bloom if smoke coming out of the exhaust. The manufacturers says that this is just steam.
