What's the resale value of my SC430?
Hey all - just posted a few times in the past and you were so helpful, thought I'd ask your opinion about what my car's worth. I've gotten a valuation online (edmunds) and took it to CarMax this past weekend, but really wanted to know what you, the REAL experts think!
Here are the details:
- 2002 pearl white w/ dark saddle interior
- 170K miles
- she looks great, and has no major mechanical issues (I've put a lot of money into the car bc I love it so much!)
Not sure what else you'd want to know...what do you guys think? I don't want to get ripped off, but I also want to ask for a fair price.
Thanks for your thoughts!

I see you're in Indiana...............
There is a MASSIVE variation on trade-in for convertibles in your area during the winter. Dealers really don't want your trade right now because it will sit on their lots until May. They make you an offer that you should refuse so you don't pawn it off on them. If it were me, I'd wait until the spring and sell it yourself. You'll very likely get closer to KBB private party resale value then.

A few years back, I had a 6 year old Chevy Tahoe that was in great shape. None of my kids wanted it so it i was going to sell it. Just out of curiosity, I stopped in to the local Carmax to see what they would give me for it. They offered me $11,000 for it, which was laughable. I listed it online, 2 days later, I sold it to the first person that looked at it for $16,500.
I always recommend selling it direct rather than a trade. I have never traded in a car in my life....It's not that time consuming to sell it yourself and, generally speaking, is the way to get the most cash for your car.

Hey indygirl, I would maybe hold out selling till spring, you will get more money that way. Most people look for convertible in spring to get ready for some summer fun. I would maybe leave the price out and try to get a best offer. List it on here and craigslist, or look on ebay and do completed items on same year car, to see if any sold and what they got. I hope I helped a bit. Good luck :-)
