Default Can anyone recommend a good OBD code reader?

Would like to see if the car is throwing any codes.
Often, the general readers don't pick up all the
OEM codes. Does anyone have one they like ?
What brand ?

I bought A CAN OBD II Model U581 from the "Bay" couple of years back and it works great. About $40.

Not sure I understand. You want to see if there are any codes. If there are codes, the check engine light will be on. If it is not, there are no codes.

My bad, meant to say, if the CEL comes on,
what reader would be best to get all the
OEM codes....not just the standard OBDII codes.
thanks

Would problems with the convertible top throw
any codes that the diagnostic port would catch ?
Since the top and the engine don't have much
to do with each other, maybe not.
