Default sc430 car phone

2003 sc430 cellphone
i have just purchased a 2003 sc430...great car. prior car was a bmw 740il with integrated phone system. it is the only thing i miss about the bimmer. the new lexus phone is absurd in price, and is only a gsm phone which sort of limits its usage in many areas. question...can someone tell me where the prewiring for the antenna and mike are located. can i switch to a gait phone....tdma and gsm....from nokia..ie instead of a 6310...a 6340....which gives me the best of both worlds. lastly...can i buy a command module and hook it up to another nokia phone. my local lexus dealer knows nada...and i want to drive safe....i would even like voice activation but who knows....2000 is a bit much..thanks...dadude4..first time poster

Default Car Phone

I was really bummed about the phone situation as well. I also was not going to spend nearly $2000 for a limited phone. I ended up getting a Nokia 6360 phone. I had them put it in the center armrest along with a dummy corded phone. I have a speaker phone mounted on the far left near me. When the phone rings or dials it automatically mutes the radio. However, no buttons on the wheel to dial and no voice activated commands. Good luck

it will be nice if "Lexus Link" has "personal calling" like the "on star"...

I have ordered a new bluetooth system for my LS430, after returning the new integrated phone. Lexus' system is garbage and far beneath what I would expect.

The new bluetooth phone will allow voice dialing AND....get this....AND voice dialing of numbers AFTER the connection! This means you can voice dial a number and then SAY the extension or mailbox or password and retrieve messages, etc.

dadude4,
I got my sc430 a couple weeks ago with the cellport voice reccognition system. I use a v60i with verizon service. It works great and it didn't cost that much. You should check it out. Its called cellport. What my local lexus dealership does it when people order the cellport system in there car they take the car to a local phone place that they deal with and they do it there when they prep your car.

Default Cellport

Does the cellport integrate in to the car/stereo or does it have its own mic/speaker? What about antenna?

I have the professional install kit for the Mot V60i and was thinking of putting it in my '03 SC430. But it has a separate speaker, mic and antenna.

If the cellport integrates fully into the car's stereo, I would opt for that.

thanks,
mark

My cellport system I got from the lexus dealership. I don't know what handsfree solutions is sorry but as far as it being intergrated with the audio system it is!. When u say "cellport wakeup" the music turns off and it responds to u and u say the number u want. Same goes for when someone calls you. The music turns off and your call comes up. Same also goes for when u dial the phone manually the music turns off and on when the conversation ends. It works great if you talk nice and clear. Sometimes the people have a hard time hearing you with the top down but thats understandable. THere is a little antenna and speaker that picks up your voice behind the rear view mirror. It is basically undetectable. I didn't know it was there for a day or two. The speaker is for it recognizing your voice, when people talk to you I think it uses the speakers through the car when the radio shuts off. In NY is illegal to talk on the cell phone so I needed a hands free system and I would highly reccomend this system.

On my 02 rx300 I also have the cellport system but without the voice command. Lexus has two options at the dealerships near me one cellport system with voice dialing and command and one without. On my rx300 I didn't get it then cause I tested it back in 01 when I got my 02rx300 and it was very buggy but when I tested the voice command when I got the sc430 it was greatly improved. I don't know about the other systems everyone is talking about but I strongly reccomend the cellport system. I think they even have a website that shows which phones are compatible.

I'm definitely interested in learning more about this system. I definitely think that blutooth is the way to go since it's an industry standard and you don't have to keep replacing the kit if you get a new phone. Please let me know more about where you got this kit from, the installation, and how it works out for you!
