Steve - what color did you use? Can you post pics?
I didn't complete a full DIY, but you can see how I did it from the photos.
Sorry for the rubbish phone quality pics.

Cut the plastic with a fine blade

make sure the light is a tight fit

solder the wires to the existing plug

tape over the light

the light does not look white in the middle apart from on the photo

I chose blue to match the car.

Already getting compliments from people and valets, I chose white to match most of the other updated LED's that are completed (and proposed later) as you can clearly tell. Glad to have this completed! Took a few shots with the new anthracite interior wrap too!

Nice job Shawn (love the gear shift! lol).

Thanks guys! We've all done a great job! One thing I will note, that I followed the exact same procedure given by steve above, but I used a dremel tool and a wheel cutter. Took my time and was really careful. Additionally, I wasn't a fan of how close the light was to the white diffuser, so I placed a piece of scrap plastic from the removed section between the light and door sill housing (superglued) to act as a "spacer." Diffused the light a little better so it didn't look like a "bar" behind the Lexus logo and since I'm using white light it appeared more white than yellow behind the gold. I also used quick connects rather than solder. To each his own! Awesome and cheap modification!

VERY nice Wil!

I'm really enjoying this collaborative effort...I guess it's the power of the internet: someone starts something up and everyone who chimes in has an idea to make it a little bit better or easier. The result is way better than if only one person had done it.

Of course, the only downside is that the poor sod who started it (me, in this case...) ends up wishing he had been the last one to do it so he could benefit from the collective knowledge.... :-)

Did you cut the existing wires or leave them connected.

You cut the wires but leave the light unit in place. Then you wire the new light to the existing connector.

This is going to be one of my next mods, it looks awesome!! That is the exact color I wanted as well.. I want to make my seat belt lights the same color.

I was thinking about heating mine up when I disassemble and remove the door sill aluminum plates - maybe it will come off easier without bending/denting the aluminum?

If you are doing the methods shown here, you don't need to remove it. You are just cutting the back off the light module. After that, the original lights just come out. Then install a strip light in there and seal it all back up. No need to remove any of the taped on parts.

My only issue with this method is that it will still look yellow/gold when the lights are off, and if yours is like mine, the glue is discolored in some places and looks like soda spilled on it.

I am slowly working to change out my interior to black, so I am keeping my eye out for black sills. Some years (or editions?) had a white lexus logo instead of the yellow/gold. I've seen a few popping up on eBay.
