Another option;
Even though I have the recent 13.1 NAV disk in my 2008 SC430, if I'm going to be out & about in traffic, I still use my Garmin Nuvi since it has real-time traffic avoidance and a few other features that I prefer over the Lexus system, so I use this setup.

Most of these vent mount do-hickeys are garbage, but the Garmin vent mount works perfectly on the SC430 . It's inexpensive, stable, puts the Garmin at just the right level for effortless viewing below my radar detector without interfering with anything (including the navigation door when I use the phone, etc), and even makes it easier to tap the screen & it's well shaded from sunlight so its easier to see.

When I get out, I just snap the GPS off and throw it in the console with the power cord. It also only takes a few seconds to remove the mount completely and stow it with the GPS if you just want to use the regular NAV system, but my cellphone also just happens to snap into the same mount with the case I have, so I just leave it there. (BTW...it really doesn't block the air from the vent either, it just flows around it)

You can find them easily, even on Amazon :

Works for me......

Does anyone on here use "Waze" as your GPS on your cell phone?
Have you tried the "Waze" app?

I've used WAZE a few times. it's a great app, but the terms of service is overwhelming and intrusive. I can live with that but it is a huge data hog and nosier than the NSA could ever be. It's a battery killer on my iPhone if I forget to turn it off after use, and my iPhone keeps reminding me that WAZE is sending data all the time even when not traveling. I find the most useful thing on my phone is the Apple maps. It gives audible turn by turn directions which my google maps doesn't do and the map is much clearer. Apple maps got off to a bad start but has improved immensely. I never even use google maps anymore. No, this is not an Apple ad. Just my experience. I usually use the car Nav, but the nanny lockout when moving sucks. With my phone, I can just tell it where I'm going and it does it without looking. Sorry to be so long winded.

Not long winded at all, it was a great review! I have waze on my android phone and on an iPad. On both devices, I changed some of the default service settings to make it more private but I must admit that I have pretty much given up on that now because if you use a smart phone they know what you are doing.

I 100% agree about the privacy. It's the data mining and all the affiliates that you unknowingly allow to track your actions. I don't need a bank or grocery store or Amazon.com getting all excited and targeting me because they noticed I stopped at a Bed Bath & Beyond.

So I have to wonder if there is a certain early version where the upgrade prevents a downgrade.
...that's interesting to know
