I've heard you can swap navigation gen2/3 with gen4 on 2002 sc430. Did anyone ever swapped it with 5 or 6 ?
If gen4 is all you can do can you replace the screen with a screen of higher resolution?
sc430 is not a trendy car (to me). Im sure i'll love it in ten years as much as I do now.
Wouldn't be great if we could just keep on upgrading the accessories to keep it up with nowadays technology?
what do you mean? head unit?
well, did anyone try that?
and why couldn't you buy the whole system?
I've seen people trying (successfully ) turning their standard edition into pebble beach edition.
Anyways I'm just asking. I believe (as a sc430 owner) that THE CAR deserves it.
I believe after gen 4 they went to a hard drive / flash based system. My 2010 es 350 has that system ( I tried to steal the navigation disc from the es only to find its hdd based) and I believe it's built into the head unit.
The biggest issue with changing the integrated NAV is that it has to interface with the car's ECU (main computer system).....an almost impossible feat. I just came up with a clean mount for my Garmin (with lifetime maps and traffic avoidance) and never looked back:
I used a Garmin Vent mount for this - easy on/off & is rock solid. BTW- it doesn't interfere with the buttons or NAV door either.
I just ordered a newer model (2599LMT-HD) with glass screen (much higher resolution), free lifetime maps and Traffic (HD). I threw in a Garmin wireless backup camera that interfaces with it for about what it costs to buy a NAV update disk for the SC430.
I will run the power cable through the console into the plug in the console so there will be no wires laying all over like I did for the radar detector (above the GPS).... a No-Brainer....
