Question Cupholder

As I have the ECRU interior I never use the cupholder in my car for fera of making a mess. Also Idon't believe in drinking or eating while I drive. I would like to use the cup holder as an additional storage container. Is it possible to remove the cup holding mechanism and make it just a storage bin? Has anyone done anything like this?

I can confirm the cup holder is 100% useless! I found out the hard way and spent about 2 hours making sure the interior was properly clean!

I was hoping to make it a holder for my Sirius controller so I'll have to report how it works out!

I use the cupholder all the time. I found it to be one of the best out of any other car I've owned.

Its a bottle holder, not a CUP holder....try getting on to the highway after stopping at Burker King. No jokes please either...if you prefer Starbucks, so be it.

Of course I don't drive agressively ! And even if I did, I'm sure the Fosters can would still stay firmly put.

Larry,

Stay away from those cans - go with the longneck bottles - easier to catch and fewer spills on the corners....................

I never could get my Fosters quart to fit into the cup holder anyway............

Silvertoy,

You are on the right track. I also have decided that it would be nice to turn the cupholder into storage. At some point I will work it out. Since I am having the center console removed to fix some vinyl cracks, perhaps I can ask the dealer to comment on this at the same time. It is obvious that ample space exists under the cover.

I also have the same color combination car and have no intention of using a cup holder. I have had too many experiences with others leaking cokes and coffee into my previous cars.

Default cupholder

Headed in Wednesday for center console replacement. Lexus will be looking at removing cupholder mechanism and converting it to a storage space. Will post update after I know results.

I thing the cupholder works fine. I also like the way it pops open. I personally would not do anything to change it.

Larry- the posts are about making use of the space in the console for storage. If you are enjoying driving the car then you don't have time to drink. When you were young I am sure you paid a lot less for a car. My first one I paid less than the tax on this one.
