Climate Control - Dead Pixels on Display
Hello,
The climate control display on my 2002 SC430 has recently developed some dead pixels on the LCD display.
Some of the numbers on the display has "burned out" it appears, making it hard to read.
Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this issue?
Thank you!

I have the same problem. Drives me bonkers. As far as I know, the only fix is to get an entire new unit. I think you can find them on ebay used for about $300. I have been putting this off until more pixels go out..

Jason, it is possible that there are some poor contacts on the back of the display. You'd have to disassemble the unit to get to them though. If there are poor contacts, it would likely be one of these: bad or loose connector socket (tying a cable to a header on the back of the display or on the other end of the cable), bad solder connection between the pcb and the header, or bad cable.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Could be. It happens sometimes on 95-97 LS400 climate units. The screen will flash or be segmented. Especially if it's from a hot climate.

I actually recall that my pixels flickered a bit before they went out. That leads me to beleive there is a loose connection. I'm comfortable with soldering wires but taking that thing apart to get to the wires, let along identify the correct wires, seems like it could be tough??

Wires won't be the issue. It will all be SMD circuitry and component work on a PCB.

Lex,
SMD = Surface Mount Design
PCB = Printed Circuit Board
He is referring to the temp/control Display that is mounted to the green circuit board.
It is possible that some of the soldered connections have come loose. They are referred to as a cold solder joint.
Remember when some of us were adding all of the LED lighting to interior components? I believe someone had some photos of the temp control disassembled when they were adding the LED back lighting.
I believe the CL vendor is offering his services to repair your display.

Hello
I have personally fixed my own defect display. Its the display itself that fails. Not loose wires or anything else. I got another cheap climate control unit that had some other defects and did not work at all. So i cut all the solder pins of my own display and soldered in the "new" one. It works perfectly. You have to know a little more than basic soldering to do this job. If you don't know what you are doing the best thing is to get a used working climate control on ebay and just install that in your car instead of the old one :-)
