Bgw is correct. The shop is an independent shop that was started by former certified Lexus mechanics. They are independent from Lexus but can read Lexus proprietary error codes. That is why they are so much cheaper than going to the dealer.
I never got a quote from the dealer for other than a diagnosis.

Thanks to all for this information. I am just putting away my 2006 SC for the winter. This is my first year with my Lexus. I enjoyed a great summer with my "new" 430. The car has never seen snow. I need all the help I can get as my vehicle looks like it just came out of the showroom and I want to keep it that way! Thanks Again!

Just got a call from Lexus & they said the roof issue is due to Left Hand Package Tray - Part# 64302-24020 for $2200.
They also said since I'm in it, it would be better to replace the switch which will be additional 2*$1700 = $3400......... though, I don't need it. In any case, I think I'm going to pass the offer from the dealer.
The cheapest I found online was for $450 + S/H. However, I accidentally stumbled upon a site & it was going for around $275. Can't find it anymore.

Anyway, I ended up ordering the entire assembly for $325 & it comes with the 1 yrs warranty. Keeping my finger cross. Now, I just have to find an independent Lexus mechanic.

Arrgh! My Lexus Support Consultant gave me wrong part number over the phone,
I came to know after I ordered 64302-24020, which is actually Package Tray Limiter Switch No. 2 (Bracket Sub-Assy, PA).
It's called "Package Tray Trim Link Left Hand Motor Assembly 85730-24030: Motor Assembly, Slide RO". TLS Auto does not have it & the lowest price I've seen online is around $270.

Yes, 85730-24030 is the correct number. (You can see it on the box in the picture I posted earlier in this thread.)

Well, I was going to take the old motor apart to see if I could identify the failure and fix it but it is pretty robustly made. It appears that all you have to do is to remove the bracket on the bottom and then straighten out the three metal tabs that are bent over the plastic portion of the housing. After that the internals should be reachable.
But the metal tabs are pretty thick metal and really difficult to straighten out. I decided that I valued my hands more than satisfying my curiosity and stopped before I wound up running a screwdriver through my fingers or hands.
However, for the benefit of the discussion, I suspect that the motor is fine but there is likely a relay of sorts inside the plastic portion of the enclosure. Once one could get to the relay, the relay could either be replaced or have the contacts cleaned (if the relay was built in a manner that would allow service).

How difficult is it to replace 85730-24030? Will you be able to send some step-by-step instructions with pictures?

hitsofmiss, I hired an independent Lexus shop to do the work. It sounded like a lot of effort to get to the motor when they described it to me. Sorry but I have no pictures (I asked for some but they didn't provide any) nor was I there when they took it apart.

Great link BGW. That must have been one of the years I was traveling since I don't remember the thread. Thanks.
